lmfao I love you Charles Barkley

quote:

“We got so many idiots fools and jackasses on television now, everybody has to have a hot take,” Barkley ranted before urging everyone to stop measuring Patrick Mahomes with Tom Brady or Andy Reid with Bill Belichick.

“Let me tell you how stupid some of these guys are on television,” Barkley said as he transitioned to talking about his favorite fool. “You know how much I hate Skip Bayless. I hate him with every fiber. Sometimes he makes me want to gain weight back so I can hate him with even more weight.”

To be local the whole day is pretty impressive in this day and age. Detroit isn’t a small market but they’re not exactly Chicago these days either. I’ll be fascinated to see who they get as hosts.

are yall ready for NBC's olympics coverage to somehow lean even harder into the forced drama and tragedy porn?

quote:

Wasserman, a sports agent and entertainment executive, said NBC is giving the games a “reality show” makeover to reflect changing times. After all, the network can’t broadcast prime-time coverage of events that happened hours earlier and act as if no one knows the results.

“NBC is not going to pretend like it’s live anymore,” Wasserman said. “What they’re going to do is treat it like a reality show. So reality TV, the magic is in the editing and telling the story of what you know is happening. … so the three hours of prime time is going to be reality-like storytelling to create the drama and the story to produce the event.”

“At 3 in the afternoon, we might not watch the swimming live in LA, but you’ll still watch that night because of the way it’s packaged, even though we know the result.”

DJExile
Jun 28, 2007

Yeah I get that in this day and age the least bad way to cover events happing on the other side of the planet is doing them live instead of tape-delayed, and there aren't a lot of great ways to fill time when it's 3AM in Paris, but everything about this reality show idea just sounds absolutely insufferable

“I remember one time I was backstage,” said Ian. “I locked in on a gentleman that did not laugh, did not crack a smile. I couldn’t stop looking at him the entire show.” Over a postshow milkshake and a toasted bagel with cream cheese, Ian asked about the man.

“I don’t know what’s going on in his life,” said Jack. “Maybe his wife is shtupping his accountant.”

Years later, Eagle told me: “I’m 7. What’s shtupping? But his point was well-taken. I can’t concern myself with every single person. I can only do what I do, and my hope is that it connects with the majority.” He added, “Zero percent of people have a 100 percent approval rating in broadcasting.”

Last Thursday heading into the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournaments and toward the NBA playoffs and NFL Draft, Undisputed averaged just 48,000 viewers during its mid-morning slot. That equals the smallest audience of any Undisputed broadcast since it returned from hiatus last September, per Jon Lewis of Sports Media Watch.

It was clear already that Fox had a problem on its hands when Bayless struggled to find a permanent cohost to replace Shannon Sharpe, and viewership lagged throughout the NFL season. But in the weeks since the Super Bowl, the situation has gone from bad to worse.

It also sounds like the relationship was beyond repair with Skip too. I realize plenty of people put up with coworkers they don’t like if the money is good, just look at Adam and Jamie from mythbusters, but I’m not sure Shannon wanted to stay for any money.

Was skip just being skip that drove Shannon off or did something bigger happen between them?

From what I know it’s mostly the former. Skip’s tweet about Damar Hamlin seemed to be the breaking point. They apparently hashed it out a bit off-air and that helped but it may have been a “too little too late” thing for Shannon.

Way late on this, but to be fair to Adam & Jamie they had a fine working relationship and just didn't feel like doing stuff together outside of work since they were already spending most of their waking time together between Mythbusters and their actual day jobs.

I could not possibly imagine working with Skip Bayless without wanting to strangle him within 48 hours.

Yeah I should have clarified but you’re right. They were professionals and got along fine for the sake of the show, but I think a lot of people figured everyone on that show were great friends. I think the build team crew was, but I can absolutely see how Adam and Jamie’s personalities would’ve grated on each other off-camera.

How are those networks not fighting over the other 4 games. Like what the hell else is cbs sports showing that night?

Lifetime should just show up with a bid for those 4 games and simulcast the Ballys Indiana feed.

It doesn’t work that way. WB (who own lifetime) or any other network can’t just throw out offers when CBS, ABC, and their other broadcasters have exclusive rights with the league, or at least right of first refusal. TNT and discovery+ also have rights and are probably working out where those other games might go or any competition it might be up against.
