Depends on the difficulty, and your build, but yeah, a lot of motu stuff can definitely be done on epic normal or epic hard with just a merc. Sschindylryn quests, for example, are definitely soloable on those two difficulties.

3/5, failed twice due to massive lag. All sorts of urban rumours flying around about what causes the lag. - Popular theory is that certain instances (namely i2049 and i2050) are bugged, but I've successfully completed on i2050 just now without lag, so I don't think it's that - Using mass invis to make the altars in each room invisible is another theory. No idea if this is true or not, I've certainly experienced massive lag with invisible altars, but it's not a problem until mobs show up. At any rate, making the altars invisible is entirely unnecessary. I duo'd a room with just an artificer, and we held it easily, but the altar did take an occasional hit from gargoyles. - Disco balls are supposedly a really loving bad idea. I don't know that the gargoyles are even vulnerable to them, but again, completely unnecessary unless you're trying to solo a room. As for general strategy, you can complete the encounter with less than 16 people in the instance - if everyone is up to snuff, you'd really only need 12 (2 per altar, 1 per lever), although naturally with more people it goes quicker as the dragon dies sooner.

Also, if you're at all interested in farming motes for items, go in to Delera's solo. You will get so many more turn ins than you will with a group. From what I can tell, the drop rate is per group, split among members, so if you're solo, you get everything, but if you're in a group, you get the same number of items from the same kills, but split amongst all members in a random fashion. You can get 2-3 items per minute solo, at a minimum, but good luck getting that many in a raid group in even 5 minutes.

DemonMage posted:Also has anyone running a wizard/monk staff build looked into using Eldritch Knight with it? I really want to find a good EK and Warpriest build to mess around with someday. Sirgog's 17 cleric/2 paladin/1 fighter Radiant Titan build looks interesting for the Warpriest front if I ever do another cleric life at least. Funnily enough, I was just today considering a 6 wiz/12 Monk/2 fighter build today using Eldritch Knight and Mountain stance with a staff for big PRR gains and everything. I was actually going to post a bit later on all the various permutations of builds that I'm considering for feedback etc. There's a lot of ideas bouncing around in my head and I need input

Various builds that I am considering, that are all ways of basically smashing faces with a two handed weapon, either an axe or quarterstaff. As a general rule, all builds have been made with either Dwarf, Warforged, Bladeforged or Shadar-Kai in mind (as they are basically my favourite races and I consider them well-suited for these) but you'd need LR tokens from the DDO store to make some of these work with the Bladeforged/Shadar-Kai. Thoughts/feedback of any of these welcome, help me sort out what I'm going to do in my next life because I'm paralysed by indecision! I'm sure there are glaring faults I've failed to see in some of these that absolutely kill the concept. I suppose choice of build might come down to one question - is Eldritch Knight any good? Do the various spellsword core enhancements stack, or can you only toggle one element on at a time? Are Eldritch Strike/Tempest as good as they sound? 12 Monk/6 Wizard/2 Fighter - This build would use a quarterstaff and Eldritch Knight enhancements. The spell point counter is a little wacky as it includes improved mental toughness. I know mental toughness isn't a great feat, but EK needs a lot of spell points if you're going to fire off it's abilities frequently, and Mental Toughness helps counter the low wizard level count. Also, this was done using Warforged instead of Bladeforged (although you'd need a LR+1 token to make this properly with a Bladeforged, but having access to Reconstruct would be really nice) but it would work with pretty much any race really. Just adjust stat points as required. You can really stack the PRR on this one if you use the right EDs and enhancements. code:

You're totally right, I completely forgot about Thief-Acrobat enhancements when I was putting that together. That 15% attack speed boost is crazy. I basically approached it as "how can I combine EK and monk" and was basically left with QS as the default weapon of choice, and basically left it at that, rather than saying "What's the best way to make use of a QS?". 12 Monk/6 Wiz/2 Rogue would absolutely be better, and I can see how someone might prefer 6 Monk/12 Wiz/2 Rogue for the Wraith form access. That was easily the build with the least thought put in to it though, and I'd probably prefer to do one of the other ones first honestly. And seconded for being able to get extra AP instead of EDs. I know some stuff in EDs is really unique...but equally, there's some enhancements it kills me not to take because I just don't have the points.

Yeah, Necbromancer was the first person I saw doing that. I think he had a 12 Wiz/5 Rogue/3 Monk build. My understanding of it was to spend a lot in Thief-Acrobat to get the tier 5 stuff, 21 point in pale master, and then whatever is left in monk. You can do it using the Shadar-Kai and start at 15 too which is handy.

Fenris13 posted:I think my wiz/mnk QS build would need about 60 more ap to spend on racial, mnk and rogue trees before I would start spending them in eldrich knight, there are just so many good enhancements for the build already. Been thinking more about this - a Shadar-Kai 12 wiz/7 monk/1 rogue would be a nice compromise I think. S-K doesn't have much worth taking, but gets its first level as a rogue and starts at 15 (which is a nice bonus) and the 12 wiz/7 monk lets you get grandmaster of forms via feats, pick up 6 bonus feats in total, a nice balance of hp/sp and you'd be able to max Concentration and Spellcraft for your skills, though Heal would sadly be cross-class. That one level of rogue lets you get the 15% attack speed boost for quarterstaves, and leaving you centred as well. The only real problem with the build is how to spend your AP, and no real options for in-combat healing (7 monk does give you Wholeness of Body though, which is pretty great outside of combat).

I am definitely appreciating the massive DPS increase - both overall and single target - once I switched from being unarmed monk to staff monk. Even though I hosed up my build and didn't take Improved Critical initially, and so don't have Overwhelming Critical yet (I will at 27 though), I find the trade off in damage to be worth a bit of a loss in versatility. I also find myself not really using Ki abilities at all anymore, mainly because stuff dies so quickly, but I was almost using the elemental attacks more for the buffs than the damage...and the buffs just generally aren't required anymore. Has not helped me at all with my build dilemma, but it's a good one to have! So uh...speculation for U21 yet?

- Two weapon defence is worthless. Drop it. - Try and get your base strength (including tome bonuses) to 14 so you can take Power Attack. - You'll get Adept of Forms as a free feat when you hit monk level 6. Try and fit in your monk levels earlier so you can take Master at 12 or 15 (12 is preferable) and Grandmaster at 18. - Do you actually have +5 ability tomes for everything? If not, you should adjust your build around what you do have (sounds like you have +3 tomes). - Unless you have a really good reason, be Lawful Good, not Lawful Neutral. - 18 Con is a bit hit to start with considering 8 is your base. Might be better off dropping down to 16 or 15, and putting those extra points in to strength (even if Dex is going to be used for your hit/damage modifiers) so you can qualify for feats and not be totally ruined by Rays of Enfeeblement. Extra Wisdom will help with Will saves and also your AC and some DCs, not to mention spell points. - If you're using Ki abilities at all, the tier 2 monk stuff which adds to concentration, saves and a bonus of some kind are amazing. - As a non-pure cleric, your turning ability will be poo poo. Don't even worry about it.

Wow, ok, shows what I know. Had no idea about the Good aligned characters taking more damage from certain mobs. I was more thinking of needing to be good in order to use certain weapons i.e. Sireth because I just don't have the skill points or charisma to get my UMD high enough.

Yeah, if it wasn't for my pretty high HP totals, I would have been totally boned on that fight. Dodge does work against it, which saved me a couple of times, but no matter how quickly you reacted it was always at least 2 hits (or attempts at being hit). Crazy, crazy damage. Regarding bladeforged and healing - do you think the inherent -20% penalty to healing done (after enhancements, but before gear - I have gloves that give +30% amp, so overall +10%) is going to be a big deal at higher levels? I've noticed I often get overhealed anyway with my monk at the moment (with around +35% healing amp from gear) but it's still probably the biggest drawback to the build.

Have they fixed the problem in U20 where LRing is a bitch if multiclassed? I'm thinking of using the 12 wiz/6 pal/2 monk build, but with a PDK, however I'd obviously need a LR token to do that, but if the whole process is still hosed up so that you count as your previous classes until the process is over, then I'm not even going to bother trying to gently caress around and finding a way to do it. I don't want to have to use multiple LR tokens to get the job done, that's just not worth it at all.

I think I have finally solved my TR problem for U20. 8 Fighter/6 Monk/6 Wizard. Pros - Good mix of HP and SP, enough to use all your EK abilities anyway. Full THF line, cleaves, dodge and mobility. Full Concentration/Spellcraft, enough Jump/Balance to be useful, almost maxed out UMD as well (cross class only unfortunately). 19-20x7 crits with a greataxe as well. Cons - Very limited self-healing, saves aren't as good as they could be (but still not atrocious). Yet another fighter life :S. code:

Just reading the patch notes makes me really like the changes that came with U20. I'll probably get at least one of those heroic Otto's boxes as well. Being able to skip heroic levels and get in to the more 'fun' part of the game, without needing to get to 28 for an Iconic TR? Yeah, that sounds good to me! I'm the kind of sucker this game is made for, as I'm relatively time poor and don't like to spend ages levelling 1-20 (though, oddly, I'm fine with taking my time post-20).

# ¿ Nov 13, 2013 08:18 |

I assume you're taking Extra Turning because Diving Healing uses your Turn Undead attempts? If that's the case, fine, but you might want to look at doing a feat swap post-20 once you can twist in Endless Turning as part of your epic destiny. Other than that, I don't see any real major flaws with it, apart from maybe going with a True Neutral alignment instead of chaotic neutral. You then wouldn't get a negative level penalty if you use a lawful weapon for whatever reason, and you won't take any extra alignment damage.
|
# ¿ Nov 14, 2013 08:34 |

Barbarians can't be lawful, and monks must be. So yeah, they are mutually exclusive. Bards also must be non-lawful, and paladins of course must be lawful good, so you can't do any bard/barbarian mutliclassed with monk/paladin.

So is Force of Personality considered generally useless or no? I was going to go with it on my next life, as I'll have high charisma and incredibly lovely Wisdom.

# ¿ Nov 15, 2013 08:19 |

Sounds to me like Force of Personality would still be worth it. I am bad/lazy with my buffs, and if they get stripped or run out, it's nice to have a decent save to fall back on regardless. Also, A Study in Sable...holy gently caress. The end fight is just brutal. You really do need to save as many guests as possible. You only get one shot as showing an item to a guest, and if you don't have their particular counter, or they aren't in thrall enough, nothing happens and you lost your chance to save them. The randomness doesn't really help either, you may not have access to the item that saves them at the time they're under someone's thrall.

Am I better off grabbing 5 comms of heroism from the second raider's box, or another CitW weapon? I'm leaning towards the commendations, because I can then upgrade my Cleaver and get closer towards the commendations needed for dragonscale armour, but I don't know if getting another weapon might be better long run (though I'm not really sure what weapon would be worth taking).

Yeah, I already grabbed a Cleaver and I picked up a Needle on one of my CitW runs. I don't have one of the trinkets yet, but hopefully I'll get a good one at some point. I think I might hold off on making a decision - I just epic reincarnated, and will heroic TR later today, so there's no real rush to make a decision I guess. Just thankful I got a second box really.

DR5/- isn't very much to be honest. That will be exceeded by a pretty small amount of PRR in epic levels quite quickly, because mobs there hit so hard. Early on, DR5/- is great. Later on...not so much. Of course, it's better than nothing, and combined with PRR it's certainly nice little boost, but it's hardly game changing and probably not worth the enhancement points to grab it if there's something else just as nice. Thunderstone will also be incredibly poo poo unless you have a large number of rogue levels and high intelligence. A DC of under 30 is going to be pointless in epic levels, and it probably won't even be good before then either. The damage is pretty ordinary too. Power attack is amazing, and it's also a pre-req for cleave (which is itself a pre-req for Great Cleave, which is in turn needed for Overwhelming Critical). In short, there is no good reason not to take it, certainly not for some extra wand mastery.

Yeah, so at 28 you can either: 1. Epic Reincarnate - everyone, set your level back to 20. 2. Iconic TR - True Reincarnation, but only for Iconic heroes. You can then start over at level 1 as a regular hero (and have the option of TR anytime post-20 you want), or choose another Iconic again (and limit yourself to level 28-only TR again for your next life). Edit - I did the first scenario of what DemonMage wrote there, Epic Reincarnated from 28->20, then Heroic TR'ed in to an Iconic. Gammon fucked around with this message at 08:07 on Nov 16, 2013 |

Woden posted:The other issue with Blitz is getting the stacks up in a full group and monsters in lower level quests not giving you stacks. At level 25 EH VoN3 is faster than EN for a blitzer because of the monster scaling, and now that I'm 27 I'll probably be faster running EE than EH. The anti grouping aspect of it really pisses me off, wizards are the worst class to group with. They wont haste you, they FoD mobs you're about to kill for charges, energy burst a group of mobs that you've just cleaved down to half health and then there's that random wail bullshit that'll always tag the mob you're beating on and no other. Seriously. I started soloing EH VoN3 to get to 28, because it was easier and quicker than doing it in a group. With Blitz charges I didn't have to stop except to let my merc healer rest up, but in a group? Not even worth hitting the button for, you never get the killing blows you need at the start to maintain it. It makes me want to not do anything except coast along when people start insta-killing everything - why advertise for/join a group if you know you're going to be doing that?

Gonna give that Preloader thing a shot. My first time loading is always horrifically slow, but everything after that is just fine. And yeah, the game difficulty definitely ramps up after Korthos, though playing on Normal (epic or heroic) is almost never a challenge, except in some very specific quests. Playing on elite is an entirely different story. Epic Elite will mercilessly corpse stomp you solo, and even in full groups some quests (and particularly optional objectives) are almost impossible to complete. Edit - Preloader works through voodoo magic. Definitely makes a huge, huge difference. Gammon fucked around with this message at 08:17 on Nov 21, 2013 |

Yeah, I've repeated a couple of quests so far - Tor and Sinister Storage for sure, maybe one or two others I think. I've also been running a 30% xp pot since I turned in the GH saga, and I did Mired in Kobolds at 16, not 15 (so didn't get max xp for that), but I'm finding myself two ranks in to 17 and only a couple of level 15 quests left to do. I'm thinking though, from your list, that there's a shitload of xp to be had at the backend. I reckon I'd probably catch up from the Vale, LoD chain, and Storm Horns/Wheloon. Still about 1 million xp away from 20, which I guess isn't too bad, given quest xp should ramp up a fair bit from the level 16 quests onward. Definitely feels more like second life in the old system, that's for sure. At least I get progress from a quest completion .

Bladeforged are totally incredible, and I'm thinking of doing Reignbeau's build next life, or the life after anyway, with a Bladeforged again. Might need some adjustment, and the skills could need changing (as first level will be Paladin, not Monk, but maybe that can be changed with a LR+0 token? Same classes, just different order) but having Reconstruct as an SLA is just so loving handy. A free epic heart will be super nice too
