I did an 8-mission slow grow earlier this year (using its2015 rules), I think having at least the first two as 3-round killing makes sense.

Start with 150pts with no retreat/lieutenant/advances rules so you can learn the basic mechanics, then introduce the missing things at 200pts without having to worry about objectives as well. Them bring in specialists at round 3.

Starting with all the rules is pretty harsh on someone new, and dumping command tokens, hacking, specialists, and objectives on game 2 at once would be pretty full on.

I'm starting to feel, after a year of playing, that people just don't think of what they are going to do if they are losing or the dice are against them. I've been trying to put a lot more thought into what I'm going to do to get, say, four points if I'm losing. In an ITS tournament I think losing well is really important, since it's so easy to win big. Too many of my tournaments are like 10 - 0 win, 10 - 1 win, 0 - 9 loss.

Yeah, I'm starting to get experienced enough to learn triage is a lot of the game. If you can hold on through turn 2 after a rough 1st turn then it's surprising how often a one-sided game can swing back.

I think that's what the ITS scoring system is trying to reward, but drat if there isn't still a tonne of griping about it.

Yuhuh. He was a great guy, fun to play against, but jeeezus. It was firefight, I had a Tik and spit montessa/peacemaker list with a Bagh mari sniper Harris and alkali for backup. It had done solid work in a few test matches but, uh, wow. I hadn't really expected that.

The jotun was just an unkillable brick without any sort of exp ammo or hacker, and the seraph could jump and murder at will. Was impressively vicious.

There's 4 sweet as gently caress busts in the kickstarter, and a 75mm (same scale as busts) o-yoroi pilot.
A) panty showing cheesecake.
B) with the awesome busts an iconic 75mm mini would have been sweet. Like an Aquila or Hsien.
C) still gonna get it all because painting large scales is great. The pilot will just have to hide up the back of the display case...

E: the 75mm pilot is available from day 1, the 32mm (game) scale pilot is a stretch goal.

The largest stretch goal they've got at the moment is for a ~90mm high Ajax. Which would be pretty sweet - otherwise no add ons to the base minis so far.

House of war is the main one up that way. I'm southeast, and the only stockist outside of the cbd I head to are house of war, game knight (campberwell) and general games. Mind games in town has the beat range, but the other joints (particularly game knight) are cheaper. Game Knight is also pretty well linked into the community.

See if you can catch a tournament at house of war. There's a few smaller, private face book groups around melb that are how most get a game on. But if you post in the infinity aus page then you'll get some tips there for sure.

If you're super fresh I've been putting together a boot camp thing that's worked well enough the one time I've tested it. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

I've found tohaa hard to play against if they're handled well, but quite fragile if a few key units drop. I certainly wouldn't classify them as unfair.

The only thing they have that's sus is the symbiomate. On an ectros its giving them a 4th wound that is not only lower risk than a normal wound, but can soak all damage in an order. While not invincible, it just seems a bit over the top.

Yeah, I learnt this hard in a 200pt game. I had a montessa spitfire go hard and cleanup 6 troops first turn, and thought that was that. Instead he re-linked a team where every member was tough as nails, which cleaned me up while a nikoul covered it.

Unless it's a tourney that's the way my games tend to go too. Especially if someone gets a bit of an upper hand, it's to tempting to push the advantage. Then they're in retreat and it's all over.

Nothing wrong with that. I think it makes the zone control missions better casually - you don't need to get a spec to a certain point, you're winning and slaughtering all at once!

I really want to try it because putting down 6 rems and 12 viral rifle dudes - 9 nearly half way up the board - immediately would get great reactions. Plus battle kittys are the best cats.

However, I'm concerned no one will ever talk to me again. Also the whole 'winning the game' thing goes out the window before you even deploy.

I'm running a 4-round slow grow in a month or so, planning for 2 weekends, then a break, then 2 weekends. It's not as big as a normal slow grow, but when I've done those people seem to burn out pretty quick. That and the break week is a good point for absentees to catch up.

I'm aiming to get some new people in to form a local community - there's a solid city wide one, but it's quite fragmented these days. A local store who stocks some infinity stuff are hosting.

Question for y'all, though - what should the first round be?

Standard - no advanced rules, 150/125pts. It's ok but with TR and camp and msv etc it's a lot to take on for new people.

Simple - as above, but restrictions on troops and weapons. Just have the basics - combi/multi/plain rifle, boarding shotty, hmg, multisniper, chain rifle, flame thrower, spitfire. Add plasma in for any onyx players. Also limit troops to avoid to/camo (a lot of extra rules around handling them) and any of the more complex skills (eg, gazis). Essentially just have 6 or so units for each army that's 'approved' for round 1 so it's easier to pick up, and there's no one bringing hac-tao/kuang shi/TR bot combos on day 1.

Any other ideas? The game is complex, but the first round can definitely be made easier imo.
