The initial draw for me, just based on a quick look around the website, is that the female soldiers actually look like soldiers instead of strippers in tear away soldier outfits. For some reason the heavy armor Scots never do it for me. I have Veteran Kazaks that are painted up in generic army camo that can be proxies if I need a list to include Grey Rifles or Mormaers. The armor plates with a splash of tartan just looks odd to me.

For someone that has 30+ models in this system I have a fairly noob-ish question. With regard to rules there is the core book and the free pdf, are these the same or is the pdf a stripped down version? Should I bother with the physical book? What is the Human Sphere book? Is it a pdf as well? Do I need it? The Paradiso Campaign. I assume there is no pdf. Is the book worth getting?

Dr. Clockwork posted:Is it often better to have a low-model count list full of beatsticks, or a lot of Orders with weaker troops? I'm working on some 150pt lists and realized that most of my purchases up to this point have been very expensive pt-wise (except for the Ikadron and Imetron, which require an expensive EI construct to be the boss). You can't do anything without orders, so it is very common to have a bunch of low cost troops to give you a decent orders pool to make your badass troops more effective. Not an absolute rule, but a very common occurrence.

At $8-$10 per model I can see why some players might skip a 40+ model army. Plus unit spam is boring poo poo. It's boring in 40K and I don't know why it wouldn't be boring here. Infinity is a skirmish game, why try to play a horde army list in a skirmish game? I'm not bashing you, just answering the question from my perspective.

I still have my GW stuff but I have yet to wargame at all since I have moved to the US. I might get around to playing 40k but I will definitely start with Infinity and/or possibly Necromunda. I plan to start an Infinity night at my FLGS. I like the shorter play times of skirmish games, 40K can just drag on sometimes and people who play Apocalypse are just insane in my opinion. Step 1: Bring every vehicle model you own. Step 2: Make the entire board a parking lot. Step 3: Take your 45 minute turn and roll buckets of dice. Step 4: Stand around while you opponent(s) takes their 45 minute turn. Step 5: Repeat steps 3 & 4 until 8 hours have passed, or you have lost the will to live. Sounds amazing.

Half Caledonian Volunteer's and half Galwegians? All of them running with the Chain Rifle combo? In all honestly I've never fielded them. I bought 4 new, 2 used in a lot buy, and was given 4 more as a gift. For the most part I plan to paint them up so I can proxy them for minis I hate like the Wulvers. So I'd likely only use 4 Galwegians at once and the others would be proxies. I'm not certain. But I have seen Galwegian heavy comedy lists before.

Sephyr posted:How did you make those? I printed out the tokens but never found a good, cost-efficient way to put them on bases or such. I bought some 6mm Plexiglas, took it to my local fablab and made a cutting template for 26mm disks using Inkscape and then cut the disks. The final disks are 25mm, you need to add 1mm for the kerf (a kerf being the material removed by the thing doing the cutting, a saw, a laser, whatever). I printed out the images on a color printer: http://imgur.com/WHSxNpO http://imgur.com/YvEfZJI http://imgur.com/mZlF1YW http://imgur.com/SMKUElD Then used a one inch circular scrap book punch to cut them out. Easily obtained from your local craft store. And while you are there pick up Aleene's Glass & Bead adhesive and Liquitex sealer (I chose matte) Once you have cut the Plexiglas and the paper punched, apply a thin even coat of the Aleene's glue to the plexi and carefully place the paper against it image side up. Now you have to firmly press them together to get a smooth bubble free join between the paper and the plexi. It will take you a couple of tokens to figure out your optimal amount of glue and how to best get out the air, but after that it is smooth (if repetitive) sailing. Allow the tokens to dry for a few hours then brush on the Liquitex sealer to the back. I only had three tokens "go bad" due to the paper getting saturated and wrinkling after applying the sealer, but even these "ruined" ones are usable for play, I just know they are a little wonky. If you managed to get any glue on the faced of the token use Goof-off or an equivalent glue/tape residue remover to clean them up. And that's about it. (FYI - The whole process is based on this tutorial http://www.notmartha.org/tomake/marblemagnets/) If you don't have access to a fablab, you can buy pre-cut clear tokens from Litko or some other online retailer; but if you can make your own I would do so. I have plans to make more of these for Necromunda, 40K and possibly Saga. They look great and are incredibly satisfying to make.

Some models just can't be fixed, but many can be saved from female-as-sex-object hell they are in through the application of a little green stuff and paint. Bare midriff annoying you? Greenstuff the bellybutton and paint a form fitting undershirt on the model. Kazaks kick rear end and are a totally viable basis for an Ariadna force. Kilt men and dog guys are not required, but can be fun if you can get past your distaste for them. Add tank hunters, Assault drop troops, and some Traktor Muls (sp?) and you have a good kiltless/dogless army. Indolent Bastard fucked around with this message at 15:11 on Apr 17, 2014 |
