Okay, I gotta be honest: I do like a lot of Infinity female minis for the sex appeal. Thing is, I have trouble finding the sex appeal in most of their cheesecake minis, including that tech-bee. Female ninja, spec-ops operative, or shotgun-toting highlander? Badass and hot... when their gear and bearing reflect power and capability. When their equipment is blatantly hamstrung by classic distortion for a perceived male gaze, it just feels gross. I bought into Haqq because I liked the female Halqa and Ghulam sculpts, which are/were some of the most reasonable in the game (and, IMO, most attractive). When I think about it this way though, my motives are almost as bad as those of the cheesecake audience. Just operating with different (albeit hopefully less harmful) norms of "attractive."

I don't think I've ever seen a single conversion turned away locally. Even outright proxies have been allowed in limited quantity. Definitely not cool to bar when parts of the original model are being used.

Good choice. Just make sure to go through the intro scenarios to pick up the game one segment at a time.

I haven't pinned a single Infinity mini, though I also haven't assembled a TAG.

Corregidor without Jaguars is like Haqq without Mutts. You could go without, sure, but why?

Camo infiltrator spam for both Nomads and Ariadna imo.

KPC_Mammon posted:As someone whose Infinity minis look kinda underwhelming, I'd like to know which painting style you're talking about. Edge highlighting 30 second photoshop example: I'm not great at it myself, tbh, but it looks really nice when executed well. Or even when executed moderately if the model looks really flat otherwise.

KPC_Mammon posted:About that last part specifically, how likely is it that new books will shake up Lt options by adding profiles? I started playing after HSN3 came out, so I'm not aware of how comprehensive changes can really be. Substantial, both in chances and in terms of how large changes can be. CB doesn't totally change the identity of a sectorial, but CB isn't afraid of tweaking things and even small changes can have significant list composition implications. KPC_Mammon posted:And if changes are comprehensive, is the issue with Bolts usually being suboptimal likely to be fixed? Less likely, but possible. CB has been reluctant to change established units that aren't god-awful, and bolts aren't that bad. If bolts become better it's likely to be in small ways, like shifting metagame or a tiny discount on equipment they use.

You know what this game needs? More crits.

CB traditionally didn't playtest with crits (because they're too swingy). Maybe that's changed, but it's been a problem historically.

S.J. posted:You could just allow models with more than one wound or structure on their profile to keep their armor save against crits but ignore the cover bonus. Crits devalue ARM, not wounds. In fact, they actually enhance the value of multiple wounds. That's part of why knights see play: 2W, great BS, and not too much cost loaded into ARM. Having an extra wound means that a single lucky crit doesn't cost you a shitload of orders invested in offensive positioning. ARM just can't do the same. S.J. posted:if [crits] devalue ARM, wouldn't [they] similarly devalue any other defensive tech like ODD or mimetism? Yes, it's just that ODD/mimetism are much more powerful than ARM because they help you win f2f rolls when crits don't happen. That makes them worthwhile even with crits flying around. ARM just isn't as good because it lacks the offensive element of winning f2f rolls, yet ARM is costed as high or even higher then mimetism. IIRC mimetism is only ~3 points in CB's formula while ARM starts oddly expensive and gets even more expensive the more you have (because it gets better the more you have of it - see Jotum in cover). ARM being so expensive would make complete sense in a world without crits, but it's pretty sketchy with crits flying around.

It's nice when the unit in question is a 10-point grunt and an extra order (or two) spent murdering it is a wasteful investment. It's less nice when it's a 25-30-point MI who's worth the time spent murderin'.
