't zou verboden moeten worden!
I played in my first tournament on sunday, so here's a small report.
I'm a bit hazy on the details, so some things might be wrong.

We played by ITS rules. 3 matches in total. Having recently finished painting my Maghariba Guard, I couldn't help but take it with me to the tournament, so I went with a vanilla Haqqislam list.

First mission, Highly Classified vs Steel Phalanx. My opponent won the Lt. WIP roll en chose to go first.
This was going be really tough. My opponent had two three-man Myrmidon link teams (one with Phoenix, one with a Myrmidon officer), a three-man Thorakitai link headed by Trashymedes and, Achilles in hoplite armor and a remote.
My list only had two units to really deal with ODD, the heavy flamethrower on my Maghariba Guard and my Djanbazan Sniper.

My Fiday failed her WIP roll and dispersed right between the two Myrmidon links. Myrmidon officer went in for the kill and knocked her unconscious, followed by a coup de grace order, scoring him his first objective. Achilles then went on a rampage, destroying my TR bot, hacker and knocked my Djanbazan unconscious. Achilles moves a bit back and is placed in suppressive fire. My turn starts. I patched up the Djanbazan with a Ghulam doctor, scoring me one objective. My infiltrated Al Hawwa placed a d-charge on a designated building and detonates it. Two scored objectives for me! The Al Hawwa camouflages herself again and starts sneaking around. Some unlucky rolls later, she is discovered and is hit by a heavy rocket fired by Phoenix. She did manage to knock out two Myrmidons, so kind of a fair trade I guess? Turn 2 starts and the Thorakitai team starts moving up, succeeding an objective on my HVT. The link team with Thrasymedes in front starts shuffling back and forward past an alley, taking potshots at my Maghariba Guard. Maggie doesn't really manage to hit Thrasy but shrugs off his light rocket launcher shots. The link team moves closer and does the whole shuffle again, but this time Thrasy was in LOS of the Djanbazan sniper. Djanbazan sniper nails him with a crit, killing Thrasymedes immediately. The remaining Thorakitai paramedic and engineer move up and the engineer does the shuffle against my engineer. Engineer nails his engineer and he falls unconscious. Turns out my opponent had intended for this to happen, aiming to score an objective. Luckily for me, the paramedic went for a mercy kill, failing their WIP roll and killing off the engineer.
My second turn starts and I'm getting low on orders. The Thorakitai is finished off and I start moving a Ghulam forward observer around before putting a bunch of my units in suppressive fire. A very uneventful turn. Steel Phalanx turn 3, Achilles has set his sights on the Maghariba Guard and deftly sneaks around. He rushes out of a building into melee with Maggie, swinging down his mighty explosive sword. The Djanbazan Sniper takes another show while this is happening and Maggie starts roasting Achilles. End result, Achilles burnt to a crisp and Maggie exploded in a lot of tiny pieces. During this turn my opponent manages to score his own classified objective. He is currently in the lead. It's now my final turn. The Ghulam Forward observer continues moving forward and causes the Myrmidon office to throw down smoke while the Ghulam forward observers a Myrmidon part of Phoenix' link team, scoring me my own classified objective. This is where I make a mistake that cost me a victory. Happy that I finally targetted on of his troops, I call down a guided missile, killing the Myrmidon that was blocking LOS to my Ghulam. In my last few orders I try to enter the smoke, intending to get a coup de grace on one of the myrmidons, but the modifiers weren't in my favour trying to flash pulse Phoenix. The game ends in a 6-6 draw.

Second game. Supplies versus vanilla Yu Jing. My opponent and I made a lot of mistakes this game, we hadn't properly read the mission, leading to many errors. A frustrating game all in all. I won initiative and foolishly chose to go second. My opponent chose the better deployment zone and forced me to deploy first. This was my first huge mistake. The game starts. A celestial guard throws down some smoke and a Hsien with HMG destroys my TR bot. Due to my bad placement, a Dao Fei manages to sneak into building near my Maghariba Guard and has a hack off with my Ghulam hacker. After a while the Ghulam Hacker is immobilized and he attempts to total control Maggie. He succeeds, but with his last order. My turn. I spend a command token to undo the total control. I manage to kill a Zanshi and Celestial guard with my Fiday and due to not properly checking LOS, I get her killed because the Hsien could barely see her between some walls and walkways. After a frustrating reset and hack off between the Ghulam and Dao Fei, I finally manage to move Maggie away from the Dao Fei's ZOC and destroy the TR bot. I move my infiltrated Al Hawwa assault hacker towards the Dao Fei but a hidden deployed KHD Ninja reveals herself and goes in for the kill! Luckily the Al Hawwa manages to carbonite the Ninja and goes after the Dao Fei. 4 incredibly frustrating rolls later, where the two kept cancelling each other's shots, the Al Hawwa dies to a crit.
Yu Jing turn 2. The Dao Fei manages to take control of the Maghariba Guard again and this time has the orders to spare. Maggie goes on a rampage, killing my Djanbazan, engineer and a forward observer. The immobilized Ninja resets and manages to get one of the supplies. Another camo token reveals itself and grabs one of the other supplies. (I forgot which unit it was). They move towards my HVT and spotlight it. (Later it turns out my opponent looked wrong at his classified objective. Turns out he had to spotlight/forward observe one of my troops)
My turn 2, nothing much happens. Maggie is free again and I manage to reset my hacker and carbonite the Dao Fei again. I forgot to count one of my orders (my opponent also forgot to attack the same Ghulam with a posessed Maggie, so I kinda lucked out there as he was my lieutenant.) Yu Jing turn 3, same as my turn 2, some resets are attemped, some hacks are done and it was my turn again. On my final turn I start rushing Maggie forward, destroying his TR bot which had been a thorn in my side. Maggie lays down the fire on the Ninja, killing her, before rushing to the corpse. I had one order too little, or I could've picked up the supply, which would've lead into a draw. The game ended 6-0 for Yu Jing (could've been 1-1 if I had that one order!)

Final game. Capture and protect against vanilla Aleph. Having learned from my previous game, I chose to go first after winning initiative. My Al Hawwa deployed near one of the energy consoles and activates it. My Fiday deployed behind Machaon and puts down a mine near him. He manages to dodge out of LOS from the mine. Next order I move around with the Fiday and opt for shotgun. This time Machaon wasn't so lucky and bit the dust. While this happened, a proxy sniper fired at my Fiday, but she luckily made her armor save and took cover behind some crates. Maggie starts stomping forward and takes out the proxy. I move my troops forward some more and Maggie sadly got in range of a hacker. Luckily she makes the reset save and that's the end of my turn. The hacker has Maggie in her sights and attempts to Overlord her. Luckily she stands strong and either keeps winning the resets or the BTS saves, until the combat group's last order, where she finally fails the saves. My opponent moves some units around in a combined order after throwing down smoke, too bad for him he forgot my Djanbazan has MSV2. He takes a shot at the Sophotect but fails the roll. Patroclus starts flanking around on the other side and starts harassing my troops.
Turn 2 I once again have a Ghulam forward observer flanking around, managing to forward observe the Sophotect. Missile chicken bot fires a missile and nails it, injuring the Sophotect, destroying a Dactini, a Myrmidon and a Netrod. The sophotect doesn't bother to roll a guts check and moves into cover close to the HVT, so no more missile tricks for me due to human shield tactics :crossarms:. The Ghulam continues on and puts an end to the Sophotect and Netrod with his shotgun. (I'm really starting to love shotguns on nearly all my troops). Aleph turn 2 starts and Patroclus also rushes out of a building going for Maggie. The Al Hawaa shoots the wrong holoprojector clone while Maggie turns up the heat, inflicting a wound and burning off Patroclus' ODD. After that Maggie and Patroclus trade a shitload of blows, the TAG making a ridiculous amount of armor saves before finally going unconscious in my opponent's last order.
Turn 3 starts! My Najjarun goes in to avenge Maggie and double shotguns Patroclus twice in the back, ending him. He then fixes up Maggie again. At this point I realize my opponent is pretty close to being in retreat and he still hasn't achieved an objective. I rush in my Al Hawwa close to his Proxy hacker and another hack off happens. The Proxy is hit by Carbonite, so I move in to finish the job with a boarding shotgun. The Al Hawwa manages to completely miss the Proxy at point blank range and the Proxy resets. The Al Hawwa shoots again but is knocked unconscious by a nanopulser in return. At this point my turn ends. Turn 3 Aleph. My opponent counts orders and is a few points in retreat, so the game ends right there. Due to scoring a single objective, I win the game 4-3.

Well, that report ended up longer than expected. Mistakes were made by me and some things would've definitely gone different had I known properly how certain rules worked. For example, I didn't realize a posessed trooper has a different statblock.
Hindsigh is 20/20 and I probably would've done better if I went for my other list which had an additional assault piece and an AD hacker. I didn't really have any offensive pieces other than my Maghariba.
I did end up taking 3rd place at the tournament, so that was a nice surprise!

There's still one question I have in relation to shotguns. From what I understand, you don't get a cover bonus to your arm roll from template weapons. I was told during the tournament that the unit I was shooting with my shotgun does get a +3 armor save from cover, but everything else under the template doesn't. Is that correct? Or was my hunch right? It would've made a difference during the matches.

Sir Teabag posted:

You were correct. You don't get the armor bonus from cover for an armor roll made against any template weapon.

Looks like you had a good tournament; two games against ALEPH of any variety is no small feat!

The Sophotect choosing to not roll guts and backing off to use an HVT as a human shield.... I know Sophie has V: NWI, but I didn't think that the Valour rules stacked. So I don't think she has courage; meaning she would of had to roll and fail her guts check in order to do that. You can't optionally choose to fail your guts roll unless you have V: Courage. Does anyone else know?

Thanks for clearing that up :)
Yeah, it was a very fun tournament despite my second game. I did learn a lot from that game though.

My opponent was kind enough to explain to me how to deal with Achilles in the future. Flamethrowers, hackers, templates and in Haqqislam's case, Ghazis. Think I'll pick up a box of them soon and maybe some Naffatuns.

If I recally correctly, models in base to base combat have LOF to each other, no matter the circumstances.

Edit:

The only requirement for a CC attack is the following:
REQUIREMENTS

The user must be in base to base contact with an enemy.

Yeah, that would be a solid start for Yu Jing vanilla and the Imperial Service sectorial.
My advice would be to get the remote box as well and either the JSA/Yu Jing support box if you're planning on going vanilla or the Aleph support pack (the one with the Sophotect) if you plan on going ISS.

I feel I have enough different specialists for the classified objectives and the link teams should help moving out of the Biotechvore.
Kaplan/Leila/Hawwa should be good for Looting & Sabotage.
Anything I'm overlooking for these missions?

Looking good!

Well I ended up winning the aforementioned tournament, so here's a small report.
The tournament was a 200 point limited insertion.

Game 1 Biotechvore
The scenario I really wasn't looking forward to play. I've never played it before, but I did realize I needed to get out of the area quick and as such I chose my Odalisque list, containing two link teams.
My opponent plays JSA and wins the initiative roll. He opts to go first. I choose deploy second and take the side which has more cover in the deployment zone. I draw Sabotage and Extreme Prejudice classified objectives.
My opponents deploys keisotsu link team + Yuriko Oda and manages to succeed his confused deployment roll, placing a TO camo marker on my side of the board.
I place my link teams way back in the deployment zone behind cover so they're hard to reach and I'm glad I did, as my opponent now places his withheld unit and the reason he wanted to go first, an O-Yoroi.
My Al'Hawwa infiltrates on a building close to where I think my opponent is going to move his TAG.

Turn 1 JSA starts and he moves up his O-Yoroi closer to my Ghulam link team, but just out of reach of my hacker. He then moves his link team up the building, intending to eventually take out my Al'Hawwa. Yuriko places a mine near him and my opponent is out of orders. This was a big mistake on my opponent's part. He only had 7 orders and forgot to put his TAG in suppressive fire.
My turn starts and I move my camo token so it gets LOS on the link team. My opponent declares dodge and I get to boarding shotgun 4 members of the link team. I manage to hit all 4 of them, but Yuriko and a grenade launcher Keisotsu manage to survive, leaving the link intact with 3 members. The mine goes of and a Koala runs in to end my Al'Hawwa. I then spend two orders trying to get my Odalisques out of the biotechvore (which in hindsight I probably didn't need to do due to NWI) and then spend my remaining orders on my Ghulam link team moving up slowly and taking out the TAG. The team manages to catch it out of cover and I spend a ridiculous amount of shots trying to take it down. My opponent had some luck with armor saves and it finally goes unconscious on my last order. I wasn't able to move up far enough with my link team so my Hafza, Leila and Ghulam FO get hit and all fail their armor saves. Luckily my link is still intact. Fanous doesn't survive the biotechvore either due to some bad rolls.

Turn 2 JSA. My opponent has 4 orders left and tries to move Yuriko down the building to repair O-Yoroi, but my HMG Lt. takes a snapshot as she moves away and manage to knock her out. The kempeitai and Keisotsu trade some fire with my Lt., but to no avail.
My turn 2. I get my doctor to patch up Leila, the Hafza and the FO, restoring the link team. I take out the Kempeitai and the Keisotsu as I move up. I spent some orders for Leila to complete the Sabotage classified and then move up the link team to the O-Yoroi. With my lieutenant (and last) order I break the link team and move up to perform a coup de grace on the O-Yoroi, netting me the Extreme Prejudice classified.
My opponent only has 1 order left at this point in his next turn so he just ends his turn right there. I do the same in my turn.
I end up winning 10-0 due to only having lost a Fanous and Al'Hawwa

Game 2 Looting & Sabotage
I'm up against CA. I draw Extreme Prejudice once again and decide to go with my Kaplan list, as this scenario requires d-charges.
I win the initiative and opt to deploy second and picking the side where I can defend my point better. My opponent chooses to go first.
Once again I deploy my troops fairly defensively, since I'm not gonna win straight up firefights again CA. I have my camouflaged Al'Hawwa infiltrated overlooking one of the panoplies in Boarding Shotgun range.
My Kaplan engineer is designated as the Data Tracker.

Turn 1 CA begins and a Suryat with HMG moves up near one of the flanks, overlooking the same panoply as my Al'Hawwa and puts him in suppressive fire. He moves up some unidrons and a Kurgat, laying down a mine in the process. Since my troops are well hidden, he doesn't get to attack me.
My turn starts with a Yuan Yuan walking in behind the Suryat. I roll on the booty chart and get an E/M CC weapon, Nice! The Suryat passes his turn facing check and breaks suppression to face my Yuan Yuan. I move in with my Yuan Yuan and go for a CC attack with his shiny new sword, the Suryat responds with a CC attack of their own, but fails to win the face to face and takes a nasty hit, failing his armor rolls. I attack the now immobilized Suryat once more and finish him off. I send my Al'Hawwa to the panoply and pull out a flash pulse, so that's one point to me for now. The Kaplans move up and discover the mine, followed by the Ghulam Hacker who was actually a Hafza with HRL in disguise shooting at it, hitting the Kurgat behind cover in the blast. Kurgat fails to dodge the blast and is burnt to a crisp. The Kaplans once again move up taking out one of the Unidrons, but are ARO'd by a hidden Malignos. Some orders are wasted trying to root it out, but no dice.

Turn 2 CA starts and my opponent is out of his heavy hitters and spends some orders trying to get closer to the objectives and take out my Kaplans, but fails at both.
Now it's my turn again and my Yuan Yuan is forced to move closer, smoke dodging a Gwailo ARO. Kaplans move closer to the opponent's objective and trade some fire with the Malignos, finally able to hit it, but not wound it. It fails its guts roll and is now prone, unable to see my troops. Kaplans move closer and then spend some orders failing hard to take out a flash pulsing Ikadron. While moving up they do manage to coup de grace one of the Unidrons, completing my classified, so that's another point. I put my Kaplans in cover and my opponents turn starts again.
With my Kaplans pretty close to his objective, he tries to take out my Datatracker with his Malignos, but he eats a shitlod of AROs in return, my engineer finishing the Malignos off with combi rifle fire. My opponent once again doesn't manage to achive much this turn.
It's now my final turn and the objective needs blowing up, but first my Yuan Yuan creeps closer and chain rifles the Gwailo.
I spend some orders mashing D-Charges against the objective and blowing it up with my Datatracker, netting me 4 additional points. I'm ready to call it a stop here, but my opponent reminds me that in the case of tournament ties, killpoints are also counted, so I use my last few orders to clean up the remaining enemies. A Makreep tracker manages to crit my Spitfire Kaplan, but the doctor quickly patches him up and the last order is spent taking out the Maakrep.
I once again end up winning 10-0, not having lost any troops at all, taking out all my opponents troops and the spawn embryos.

Game 3 Safe Area
For my final game I have to face a Yu-Jing player who has won his games so far, but I won two major victories, so I just needed a tie to win the tournament.
I draw a classified objective card and we both immediately decide to use it as intelcom card. After some pondering I end up going with the Kaplan list, due to the amount of specialists and doctors.
I once again deploy very defensively so my opponent has to spend a lot of orders moving up. My Al'Hawwa infiltrates on one of the buildings in the middle of the board.
I see my opponent deploy Sun Tze sniper, a Su Jian and Asuka Kisaragi plus some Keisotsus and Kuang Shis. 11 orders, two fast units and one strong ARO unit I can't really beat in straight up firefights. This was going to be a tough match.

Turn 1 YJ. The Kuang Shis are forced to move forward. He then spends a coordinated order getting them in proper position and get one of them near my Al'Hawwa. Next order he moves that Kuang Shi up the stairs. Hoping to waste an order I do not react with an ARO. The Kuang Shi manages to discover the Al'Hawwa with the second part of his order. Next order it's chain rifle time. I try to dodge, but fail, so that's one of my key pieces against the Su Jian down. My opponent then spend another coordinated order trying to move the Su Jian, Asuka Kisaragi and the other Kuang Shis closer. With both the second parts of their movement, Asuka and the Su Jian get in LOS of respectively the Kaplan Doctor and the Ghulam Hacker who was once again in fact a Hafza with HRL. The doctor fires his blitzen and manages to hit Asuka, who fails her saves and is now isolated, which means she won't be moving up anymore this turn. The Su Jian was climbing up a building to ambush the Kaplan, but the HRL in hit mode hits it and it takes one wound in total. It ends its movement out of sight of the Hafza. Another order is spent on the Su Jian to climb down the building next to the Kaplan. My Lt. manages to see it and fires from over 32 inch with his HMG and manages to hit it, but not damage it. The Su Jian enters a fire fight with the Kaplan Spitfire trooper under 8 inches. I decide to ARO with my pistol while the Su Jian fires its spitfire. Kaplan wins the face to face and somehow manages to wound the Su Jian with his pistol. The Su Jian enters NWI and attempts to go down in a blazing glory, moving closer and firing its flamethrower. I break my linkteam as my spitfire Kaplan engages the Su Jian and the Kaplan doctor goes for a regular dodge. They both manage to make their roll. We weren't sure if Mechanical Transmutation was allowed when engaged, but we went with the rule of cool and ended up in some ridiculous Equilibrium/Metal Gear Rising Gunkata fight between the two. The Kaplan eventually wins the CC FTF and finishes off the Su Jian using his pistol.
It's my turn now and I intend to drop the Yuan Yuan behind the building, but I fail my roll and I (luckily) scatter somewhere else in his DZ outside of LOS, although a Keisotsu does manage to make his change facing roll and is now looking at my Yuan Yuan.
I roll on the booty chart and I get an Explosive CC weapon. Nice! The Yuan Yuan slowly moves away from the Keisotsu trading pistol fire and smoke grenades. He then moves to the building Sun Tze is on and starts climbing. Sun Tze fails his change facing roll, allowing the Yuan Yuan to get in base to base and CC next order. Another CC fight happens and mister Yuan Yuan explodes Sun Tze dead with what I assume are D-Charges jury rigged on a sword. My next few orders are spent on the Kaplan link team moving up, taking out Asuka and leaving the Doctor, who was my Data tracker, next to one of the comm objectives. My other two Kaplan move up in the area closest to my opponent and my turn ends.

YJ turn 2 starts in loss of lieutenant and doesn't manage to do much as a result. My turn starts and I use coordinated orders to move up my Hafza, Ghulam Doctor and Leila, taking out some Kuang Shi as a result. My Ghulam doctor is next to one of the objectives and I move my Engineer moves next the objective in my opponents side of the board. The Yuan Yuan moves closer and once again ends up in CC with the Celestial Guard, exploding him to death.

YJ turn 3 starts in retreat. He tries to take out my Kaplan Engineer, but fails to do so. At this point the game ends due to the retreat rules and he uses his intelcomcard to cancel the specialist status of my datatracker, causing me to lose 2 potential points.
I still end up winning with 6-0 as I dominate more areas and control two consoles.
I once again only lost one unit.

Well, that ended up longer than I had intended, but it was a weird tournament. All my games ended up very bloody while I lost very little units. I've had some ridiculous lucky with my booty rolls for my Yuan Yuan, getting the right weapon for the right situation. I've fallen in love with Kaplans all over again. Even with a link team of 3, they are so versatile, having the tools for any situation. My Hafza HRL disguised as Hacker trick keeps working as well. It's fun to trick opponents into thinking they can ignore a rifle shot at long range, but then a rocket flies their way, usually ending up in devastating results.

I still need to paint mine.

Finished Tarik and Penny. I'm gonna use her as a Zuleyka proxy.
Just need a better smaller brush and less shaky hands so I won't mess up those edge highlights.

I must admit I'm slightly upset I can't use Tarik in ITS tournaments, but I'll manage.
