In that case you are just lucky the doors don't fall off when you hit the locks.

On a serious note, I had a rental (brand new pos) Jetta for a while recently. As far as I could tell, the keyfob was the only way to lock the doors when you got out. If any door was open, the lock buttons in the car did nothing. Wouldn't have been so bad if the keyfob didn't honk the horn every goddamn time you locked it.
