So a fighter died cutting weight. 26 year old Leandro "Feijao" Souza of Nova Uniao was cutting to cut the last two pounds to make 125 when he collapsed, and died soon after.

quote:

According to Santos, Souza was called in on short notice to fight on the card and needed to lose 33 pounds in one week. He still had 11 pounds to lose in the last 24 hours. Souza was trying to cut two remaining pounds when he passed out inside the sauna.

About 20% of your mass in one week, that's loving ridiculous. How awful :(
Apparently the card's been cancelled as well, rightfully so I would say.

There's a 20 minute video of Shields sparring with Rafael Mendes that went up on YT a few days ago as well. Not quite as action-packed as the Marcelo ones but it is funny watching Shields turn several shades of Ken Shamrock purple while Mendes stays pretty chill throughout. Also that arm-drag at 5:20 :swoon:

Huerta washed out of the UFC right around when I started paying attention to MMA so I don't know much about him. It looks like he had some legit wins, and even if you're can crushing pulling a 6-fight win streak in the UFC is pretty loving hard to do. What happened to him?
Even without the benefit of hindsight I think a lot of people felt his record was inflated at the time. I remember in the earlier editions of this thread a lot of us thought it was funny that he was still getting fights with debuting guys like Doug Evans and Alberto Crane while the UFC was hyping him as a title contender. The fight with Guida was legitimately great, but even then he lost the first two rounds pretty decisively, including almost getting TKO'd in the second. I don't really buy that he lost to Florian and Maynard because he was more focused on a movie career or something, I don't think he would have had much to offer those guys under any circumstances. He had a pretty well rounded skillset and was incredibly tough, but I don't think he really excelled in any one area.

OH poo poo that was a weird triangle setup. From what I saw before, I had figured that chump was sitting in side control wit his right arm between winner's legs, and it was set up from that direction, with winner pulling his left leg up and shoving chump's head down with a forearm.

Yeah that's what I assumed when I read about it too. This is like, a reverse inverted triangle from bottom side control, which is crazy as heck.
