One thing to say about the whole Schmidt plot this season, even if you hate it - they have been absolutely tear-assing through it. It was introduced in the very first episode, then there were wacky hijinks in the second where he almost got caught, then it was resolved this episode. Any other comedy that bothered to do a plot like this would have milked it for everything that it was worth, turing each one-off gag into a full-fledged B-plot per episode until it climaxed during November sweeps (at the earliest). If they keep the same pace up, I can see the "Schmidt being a spiteful dick" plot lasting an episode or two before they give us a reason to love him again.

They also made him seem way more competent at his job with his handling of Kevin '97 (hiding his keys and tea water) and by showing how comparably terrible Cece is at bar-tending tricks. In retrospect it definitely seems like it was on the agenda to make Nick seem like less of a loser.

Haha yeah that was the best line, it was roughly "Drink up Checkers. Forget what you saw..." in a Nixon voice. Winston absolutely kills it. It sucks they still haven't figured out a concrete direction for his character, but honestly the way they have been using that lack of focus to go weird places with the character has been a great source of humor.
