In a perfect world that'd result in someone realising the security team is overworked and needs more budget but realistically all that we care about here is covering each other's asses, so Imma just point out that Teams chat is de-facto an electronically signed communication from the relevant member of the team, and any failure to input it into the correct ticketing system on their end is a failure on their end, so direct any enquiries to <name on chat> and sit back all :smugbert: TBH.

From my brief time in ediscovery I think the AES is probably "good enough" for most tort law use where you're going to hand over things like certs during discovery and only need to hit balance of probabilities standards, but I can see why it'd piss you off if the Italian government were expecting QES for most things and arbitrarily decided not to use it.

Way back I used to work for a place with the misfortune to have the same phone number as a lovely delivery company, except we were based in the capital and they were in the arse end of nowhere so the area codes were different. Everyone would just ignore the area code and dial as if they were in Dublin. It would often take quite a while to convince them we were a security consultancy and not a delivery company. Over Christmas to new year when we were shut you'd get the same person ringing once a day ignoring the voicemail message telling them who we were and getting more and more upset about their lost package and nobody answering the phone every time.

The issue ended up being missing manifest.json files, which was caused because we had to delete the underlying storage for one of our clouds awhile back before we realized we could orphan services using PVCs. Federated repos only update new files by default though, so images that hadn’t been updated in time didn’t get replacement manifests but did get the image itself apparently. Regardless, running a full sync fixed it nicely.
So the manifest.json files were telling things where to check the certs and lacking updates they were pointing to certs that didn't exist?

The ways I've been told about, since I've only seen one lovely Locky infection personally, are that they encrypt the backups as they're being written, they prioritise files that aren't used regularly first, or they keep the encryption key in memory prior to the ransom and just decrypt live on the assumption that helpdesks will ignore "my computer is slow" complaints from users.
