Obari directed and storyboarded the OP. He will be mecha animation director for episode 7. Enjoy.

Any word on ratings yet?

Not high enough to top-10 (the cutoff for anime was 4.1% episode 1 week and 3.4% episode 2 week) so we probably wont know for a while, if ever.

2chan rumors claim that we won't be seeing anything from 00 S2 or AGE because another network still has the contracts for them. Sounds plausible enough, and to be honest if it means getting to see more of the older stuff then I'm fine with that.

I'm not sure what their source is but 2ch seems to be taking this as accepted. Its getting included in the OP FAQ for their new BF threads when old ones get full.

MBS/TBS airs mainline Gundam series and would have the rights to those, whereas BF is airing on TV Tokyo. Makes sense. Also, 00 S1 aired more than 5 years ago and speculation puts that as the cutoff.

KenO (storyboard and mecha director for episode 5) said on his twitter he put the God vs Shining scene in solely because he wanted to draw it. So yeah, there's a bunch of mecha nerds staffing individual episodes and just throwing things in for fun.

In fact, there have been tweets after nearly every episode from various staff members saying who worked on what scene, which is pretty rare for anime; the individual mecha directors just seem to be having fun in general.

aers
Feb 15, 2012

I'll have to go look that up but here's the rest of the known episode 5 stuff just for the sake of it -

Ken Ootsuka - Storyboard, Mecha AD, Key Animation
scenes: God/Shining, Rick Dias, Butler vs Satan, Victory vs Fenice
Yoshikazu Tomita - Key Animation
scene: first half of Build vs X Maou
Eiji Komatsu - KA
scene: second half of Build vs X Maou
Satoshi Nishimura - KA
scene: Build vs GP02

And some things to look forward to: Obari is the mecha AD for episode 7 and has been tweeting about BF a ton. He's pretty drat excited about the whole thing and wants to do another episode if he can.

Dismal is sort of an understatement if the numbers for episode 1 & 2 are correct. We probably wont see any evidence of influence on gunpla sales for another 3 months either (when Bandai's 3Q IR comes out).

quote:

The rating among the kids demographic just plummets after episode 1 while the ratings among older dudes jumped. It doesn't really help that the show airs across from the news on every other channel in Tokyo.

Looking at his website http://www.legendoor.com/discography/hayashi_yuki/, he has a ton of experience doing TV Drama OSTs (including Legal High S1 & 2, which is a really big show right now), which would explain how he's on a Gundam show with such little anime experience.

Well that's just the news on every major Tokyo channel, welp.

aers
Feb 15, 2012

To be fair - TV Tokyo is a bit weird and regularly airs anime during evening timeslots where the other channels are airing the news or dramas instead. This isn't that unusual.

edit: To be a bit more clear, TV Tokyo has anime programming at 6 and 6:30 nearly every weekday. The only other Tokyo channels that air anime at that time do it on the weekends, and it's NTV & Fuji with huge long-running shows that get high ratings.

Sunrise, do not let this show's staff go after GBF ends. That is all.

The series staff are all Sunrise & Gundam regulars, they aren't going anywhere unless they want to. They are bringing in some not-actually-Sunrise-but-work-on-a-ton-of-mecha-shows guys to do mecha animation direction & KA but that always happens on shows like Gundam, although possibly not on this scale.

Also the show taking its timeslot is http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/anime/oreca_dracolle/, not Fairy Tail.
