And yes, we should try to put together a group ride next weekend. Anyone down for going to check out Revolver Brewing in Granbury? I was in the area last weekend and there's a ton of beautiful country with great winding hilly roads.

I just took 30 to 75 in downtown, it's not quite as fast as 635 but it's not that big a difference, and there was no way I was making the 635 exit.

I think I've tried Blood and Honey by Revolver before. I'd be up for riding around Granbury, my grandpa used to live there, haven't been in a long time.

Hello Dallas riders! I am moving cross country to Dallas this weekend and hope join the ranks once I've settled in and purchased a bike down there and become comfortable with it. I just completed the MSF last weekend and I've been looking on Craigslist for an SV650. I don't know anyone in Texas besides a few friends that live in Austin, would it be possible to persuade one of you to look at bikes with me for road worthiness? I can compensate you.

I'm no SV650 expert, but I know having a critical set of eyes can help, someone not emotionally invested in the getting of a new machine- so I can help as far as that.

Awww man, I would be so all over that if I wasn't going out of town with the family this weekend. All my extended relatives are getting together in Virginia and I haven't seen any of them in 5+ years. I have a kid none of them have met yet and two cousins in their 20's that I haven't seen since they were babies.

Anyway, I rode out to meet a friend for lunch yesterday for the first time since putting an R6 throttle tube on my SV (reduces throw to about 1/4 turn) and the bike feels fantastic. I need to get a real ride in before the weather gets unbearable.

Has anyone got plans for Sunday 6/1? I am going to block out some time to ride no matter what but I would love to not have to go by myself.

Revolver brewing tours are only open on Saturdays. I'd be happy to shift that destination to the 31st if it meant more people could come.

My only concern about riding this Sunday is the threat of inclement weather. Forecasters can't seem to decide if it's gonna rain Sunday or Monday. I have wet weather gear, I just don't know about the rest of you.

Man, I want to get out Saturday. I wish they would narrow the loving delivery window from "between 7 am and 7 pm" so I could make plans to get out of the house.

I have never done a brewery tour and that sounds awesome.

I can only get out on Saturday, my mom's birthday Sunday. She claims it's fine if I go for a ride in the morning and come by later but I suspect she's lying :v:. I've never done a brewery tour either seems like it'd be fun. I need to go down to Deep Ellum Brewing Co. sometime I like their beer a lot.

Plan for labor day is to do my valve adjustment and swap out various lights/mirrors so I have brake lights and signals that are a bit more functional and less "legally they exist."

You could have been out riding in the rain with us. It was wet. The brewery was alright though, really crowded.

That was my first time riding in the rain, the visibility is awful. I was slowly convincing myself in my head that I should make my next(immediate) purchase a better helmet with one of those pinlock visor things so it didn't fog up, but apparently you guys couldn't see poo poo either so it doesn't matter.

Definitely going to pick up some kind of rainproof outerwear for my jacket though. Aside from the rain and the terrifying gravel road that was pretty fun. If we're going to be near Glen Rose again we should do destination BBQ because Glen Rose BBQ's pretty awesome. There're some other BBQ restaurants besides that one that are also good. I'd be up for it anyway, once we actually found the roads the riding was pretty nice too, more fun than Mckinney I thought.

Actually, I could see fine. I don't know if my visor has a special treatment or what, but water beads off of it pretty easily. And I have a wiper on my wet weather gloves.

Ah, well maybe I will get a better helmet or visor or something cause I couldn't see poo poo, even when the rain was just kinda misting it would still fog up pretty bad. That part after the car wash though I was just kinda staying generally behind your tail lights on the grey blur in front of me.

For me it wasn't fog, the water had misted so bad I had tiny beads of water covering my shield on the outside. I just forgot to wipe it down with rain-x. The brewery was entertaining. Other than home brewing I'd never been in one that was basically a one room operation.

Of all things for rain gear for many years I just wore something like this:

reflective rain suit
"golf" rain suit

As long as they aren't rubber (which melts against the engine at even an incidental touch) I've had decent luck.

Another option is to coat stuff with something. In the past I've used camp dry. It works OK but you need to re-apply it all the time.
I've seen never-wet but haven't had a chance to try it out.

Looks like Total Wine and Spec's (which bought Mr. G's a few years ago) both have locations in Houston. Here in Dallas they both have awesome selections, but they are bigger chain stores so the beer selections are maybe not quite as individualized to the managers' tastes like Mr. G's and Kegs & Barrels in Plano. Still, I think you will probably find what you're looking for at either of those places.

We just got back from our Washington DC trip yesterday and it looks like the weather there was a lot better than here so I guess I don't have to feel lovely about missing the Revolver trip.

Peticolas and Community are my two favorite breweries in the DFW area and they're pretty close to each other, but they're in an area that is not the least bit fun for riding, so that sucks. Franconia is up in McKinney near where I live, and they have been around a while longer and are in better proximity to some riding roads, if you guys are looking to do more of that sort of thing. Franconia has the disadvantages of not being as far away as Granbury and not having really great beer. Their dunkel is okay but everything else I've had has been sorta meh.

I work for Spec's. They're based in Houston, and their biggest store is on Smith St. Every store should have a beer specialist, and they're usually really into beer. Go in, look around, and don't hesitate to ask for the beer guy. Anything you don't see, if it's available in TX, and not a super limited release, they should be able to order by the case for you.

I've taken the Franconia tour before. The guy that owns the place is a German immigrant that brews according to German purity laws. So, as a result, the beer is pretty straightforward.

The tour was nice though. He's a funny and passionate guy.

I took a ride with some ADVrider guys on Sunday and learned a few new routes. I've got a treat for you dudes if you feel like hauling yourselves a bit west. FM 4 features *actual* canyons. I'd be up for riding Texas canyons. I was talking to my dad about it and he says if we're going to bother going somewhere for BBQ it has to be Llano or somewhere south of Austin (he had a specific place but I forget.) Neither of those are very interesting to get to though probably. The place we ate in Glen Rose wasn't a biker place so there may be better BBQ restaurants around. The only thing I really remember about it is that our waitress managed to use the word "ya'll" 7 times in a single sentence. It was a real linguistic achievement.

Anyway let me know if you guys are going and I'll make some time. If it ever stops raining anyway.

Yeah, specs has a far better beer selection than anyone else I've seen around here. The only problem is that they're more of a liquor store than anything. So they have maybe 1/5th the selection of places like Mr G's. Hell, I think the entire Mr G's store minus the deli was bigger than my local Specs.

Oh, they have it at the one I usually go to in Baytown. I only used it as an example because it's awesome and everyone knows what it is. It's just hard to go order a case of something you've never tried before when it's $50+ a case.

So apparently my bike hasn't been able to go WoT for several weeks. That explains uh, some things. I fixed that today and made the first steps to having blinkers that blink at appropriate speeds, I put some resistors on the front and got new mirrors with blinkers on them so they're actually visible. I have new lights for the rear as well but only the 1 set of resistors so I'll have to wait until another pair come in so everything works correctly. Be nice to have people able to tell where I'm indicating from the front.
