Granted they do a lot of videos that aren't just let's plays, but within the past year or so I think their Achievement Hunter/LP stuff has grown to be one of the biggest, if not the biggest, part of the company. Yeah, they've leaned heavily into the personality side of it. They do weekly games in Minecraft, building up new areas and playing games in them, and play multiplayer in a different couple games every week. There's the right blend of content consistency and content variety. It works in part because they make no pretense about showing off the game or anything like that-- it's basically a comedy show played out over video games. Also, the fact that they scored the username "LetsPlay" probably helped.
