I thought Hit Monkey was just too far along to cancel like they did for the rest of the Offenders project, so it's surprising they finished up and decided to actively do more. I guess it offered up something for someone.

It had some great moments.
The introduction of Lady Bullseye at the end of episode 6 was pretty awesome and stuck to my memory. What a loving psychopath! Great song too.

It felt sort of ridiculous when The female lead picked up her mantle at the end and I am eager to see where that goes.

I kind of expected it would happen eventually, because what other major story could take place there? But I didn't expect it to happen so quickly, nor to be that brutal in a revival of a 90s Saturday morning cartoon.

Are we still pulling from Claremont comics for these stories?

I also find it fascinating that we are still pre-Emma Frost in everything X-Men.

Last episode was pretty post-Claremonte. Emma atleast showed up again. Here's hoping she gets expanded upon, maybe even joins the team. This attack on Genosha in the comics is how she gets her diamond powers interesting enough.

Emma got the diamond form powers in New X-Men when Cassandra killed literally everyone on Genosha except her (because she suddenly had the diamond form powers).

Wasn't that when mutants (not just Emma) started getting "secondary mutations" for some reason? I think that's around the time I got poor in college and had to stop buying books

I think Emma mind controlled him and realized he was just holding back on his powers, and then he opened up more after that.

It’s funny because if you check out https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Secondary_Mutation
then half the known/suspected secondary mutations is just mental instability, or Black Tom becoming a tree which had been happening for half a decade or more by that point.

Morrison wanted to use Colossus, but he was going to be dead by then because he sacrifices himself to cure the Legacy Virus. Marvel didn't want to cheapen that by immediately having him come back, so instead Morrison came up with secondary mutations and had Emma Frost fill that spot. Her diamond form as a substitute for Colossus doesn't really become a story point anywhere besides surviving the Genosha attack, so I guess that was to be the main thing he wanted Colossus for?

The swap must have been made pretty early in the planning though, since Emma ended up being one of the major players in that run.

And was the psychic immunity came up a few times with Jean and the Cuckoos over the course of it too.

Aphrodite

Oops yeah, I meant as a substitute for Colossus as a tank. I have to assume the shatter thing was thought up after the pivot when he began developing Emma, because I really doubt he planned to have Colossus broken into chunks.

And much as we'd love to see it, we probably weren't supposed to get a Colossus/Cyclops affair.

It's a big plot point? She gets "murdered" because someone shoots her in her diamond form flaw. I mean, I guess they could still murder her, but not so sure the "Phoenix reforms her" works so well with flesh

Didn't someone try Scott's secondary mutation was a preternatural enhancement to his tactical skills? Then the next run it was 'No, just let him be naturally good at something'.

I think maybe it was Whedon's first Astonishing?

I've seen shit you people wouldn't believe. Cop cars on fire off the shoulder of I-94. I watched search lights glitter in the dark near the Ambassador Bridge. All those moments will be lost in time, like piss in the drain. Time to retch.

All I remember about his powers in that book was that Emma therapied away his mental block that kept him from controlling his blasts and he decided to keep wearing the visor and keep it a secret so that he'd have an ace up his sleeve. When/how/why exactly that got retconed I have no idea but I'm still salty about it.

Unlike the Xorn is Magneto twist from Morrison's run which I feel is exactly the situation retcons exist for. I loving loved that one (inspite of some of the art) all the way up til the end. What a let down.

That was in the second Astonishing arc, where they go to the alien homeworld. I think it was something having full control over when to use his powers was also causing him to hold back on the power levels and he needed them at full force. Less a retcon and more a writer having to reset any changes before putting the toys back on the shelf.

I don't think it did, he just decided to keep wearing his visor just in case he lost control again or whatever
