Hello Everyone, my friend and fellow filmmaker Roy Berkeley has recently launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for a short he's trying to shoot in the fall. It is an anthology horror movie which focuses on a young woman who discovers a mysterious movie viewing device that has the unfortunate side effect of altering her perception of reality.

The film will feature Erin Brown a.k.a. Misty Mundae in the lead role.

Here's the link: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/inside-the-armoire

If there are any questions, comments, or criticisms I'd be glad to field them here!

Um. . . nope sorry, the concept is pretty much locked down.

Well, hell you're right I guess. We better pack it in and not even bother making a movie. How silly of us. It's not like the cast and crew have experience on scores of different sets, an experienced cinematographer is shooting this on a black magic camera, or that we've already got a prop master working on the most heavily-involved aspects of P.D.

Nope, we only ever planned to shoot this thing with a camcorder, no lights, completely ADR-ed audio, and a very weak grasp on editing and camera set ups.

Woe betide the idiots who undertook this foolish endeavor.

Well I was hoping for comments beyond the typical, sardonic, "hurr it looks dumb, and they're ideas about X,Y, and Z are undefined so this must be crap."

I do think you were being unclear, to the extent that the criticisms you're levying against the project are about as valid as any comment made on the internet about something that hasn't fully gotten off the ground yet. I do appreciate a healthy amount of skepticism, but if you're not prepared to give the project the benefit of a doubt than, there's really only so much I can say to try and convince you of it's merit isn't there?

To address the questions you have regarding how the money will be spent:

1. If the movie doesn't reach its funding goal it still gets made, though with a Director who pays substantially more out of pocket, and less-well paid, and likely over-taxed (and therefore more pissed off, and less attentive) crew.

2. The funding is going primarily towards paying actors' salaries, the rental of camera equipment, and the construction of props that will be used in the film (the Armoire device that the movie takes it's namesake from, being one example.).

Your friend's movie sounds dumb, and doesn't deserve the money you are asking for it. It's great that you thought you'd come in here and make converts of us and we'd donate, but what you've put forth isn't really going to do that to anyone. You're only getting "typical, sardonic" responses because your friend's project is uninspired and doesn't deserve the money, not because "oh well duh people are just gonna go hurrrrrrr."

Well, that's your opinion and you're totally entitled to it. If I didn't think my friend had any taste or talent I wouldn't bother to help him make his movie or pitch it to people. We have a full cast and crew lined up, made up of working professionals who I have prior experience with, a locked script, locations, and props that are already well underway.

The whole point of this thread is to ask for help to get something made, GonSmithe, if you think the concept of the movie is no good based on hearing the concept or on a trailer that really was shot on a shoestring, then that's entirely your perogative.
I've worked with this group of filmmakers before and I know they're capable of producing solid work, so forgive me if I don't immediately give in to cynicism, throw my hands up in the air, and agree with you.

Here's a link to their vimeo page if you'd care to check our a few examples of their work:

So I'll reiterate, if anyone wants to donate please do.

By the way, I don't expect everyone to "go hurr" but I'm not going to hold my tongue if I disagree with a point of criticism that I feel is overly vague or unconstructive. I'm well aware of the fact that the point of this thread, is in addition to spread projects around, is to offer critiques and criticism.

How much of the budget is the star that no one but obscure lovely film nerds and fans of monkey porn would know, I'm genuinely curious what the going rate for a...talent...like that is in the year of our lord 2014. The reason I don't have a lot of interest in the movie is that it looks like a typical 'heh heh, get it' kinda 'love letter to old shlock' or whatever the buzzword is. Like, the page didn't have much to say about the movie, as if it expected me to see the cast and go 'ha ha yes I remember her' and throw my money at the screen.

Also fun Goofus and Gallant moment, see how Egbert reacted? He gave his own views and acknowledged the views of his critic without being a dismissive dickbag because he realizes in the self-promotion thread in a forum like SA chances are someone's going to have a complaint.

Alright, the point of our campaign is to raise half the budget for the film. It's ambitious for its budget, but everyone involved is at the top of their game. It will be excellent, and I'd love to see someone with an open-mind donate or at least share the film we've spent countless hours on so far. You won't regret your decision. Thank you.
