I hope this is the right place to promote this, but a couple of internet buddies of mine (I.E. not myself so technically this isn't self-promotion. If this needs to be moved I will gladly do so) are making an effort to begin restoring forgotten silent films, starting with Frank Borzage's 1922 film The Pride of Palomar. People on this forum go on about how important film preservation is to them when complaining about George Lucas' changes to Star Wars and the like.
