Figured since most of us spend a large amount of time on the internet why not talk about how we love our ISP's? I pay 49.99/mo for these speeds, and this is on a night where netflix is probably running full speed on my ring. So far no problems with port 80/443 which surpises me because I though verizon were dicks. Also feel free to bitch about ISP's for how poo poo they can be; So extend your Epenis here http://www.speedtest.net/ Dilbert As FUCK fucked around with this message at 03:13 on Oct 30, 2013 |

15/5 on Time Warner for $49.99. Looking at Verizon FiOS (just Internet) and it's a 2-year contract, 50/25 for $59.99 (plus taxes and fees) for the first month... Then I guess it's "could be something else" after the first month... But then it says $20 credit for first 12 months... And then it turns into a $5 credit for 24 months? No wonder Verizon is a bunch of assholes edit: Okay so it remains at $59.99 for the first 12 months but then it goes to $79.99 from months 12-24. So stupid. I get 100/100 for $30 a month, no contract. The solution to all ISP issues is to move to the American Northwest, apparently.

Two months ago I moved to a small corner of Sacramento served by Surewest, who has the neighborhood wired for FTTH, and signed up for their 30 mbit symmetric service. It's about $45/month. I needed a static IP for work, and surprisingly I was able to get the static IP plus a second dynamic IP for the home network for $5 more. I think that's really unusual, and it was a nice perk. Then I did a speed test. Asked the tech about it and the answer was "oh yeah, we don't bother capping our upload." Thought that was pretty cool. I really can't say enough good things about the product so far. It's not gigabit, but it's so much better than my 30/2 cable modem from Insight/Time Warner, and cheaper too. Latencies are dramatically lower as well.

In Portland the best bet is Verizon FIOS but their coverage areas are really weird. I pay 60 a month 25/15 but in reality it's more like 5/wet fart.

"Boy that doesn't look all that fast" you might be thinking, but I'll tell you what, I was stuck on 1.5m/768k adsl up to three months ago and you try not to have some sort of glee over watching steam download at almost 6 MB/s.

Paid for 70Mb Fibre, getting 15 down and 2 up. ISP can't/won't do anything, nor will any of the competition. Hooray for user sharing ratios!

I live in central Florida and it seems a majority of the area is capped at 10/2-3. Brighthouse has the fastest I belive but 50-60mb/s for like 80 bucks isn't worth it in my eyes. Most schools in my area are getting 100/100. I know of several people in Orlando that use Clear as their ISP and tweak the gently caress out of their little 4g hotspot giving them a solid 40mb/s. I like the idea of being able to take your internet with you like that, especially if you find yourself traveling a lot. At about 7pm every day that 10 drops to 6. Enough to get by, but god damnit I swear its gotten slower in the past year or so.

I'm on 50mbps Comcast for $50 in the Seattle area and that's a pretty decent deal as far as I've found. I've seen a couple communities do FTTH around here, but for the most part it's Comcast (which has actually been very solid, and I always get my advertised speed) or lol 1.5Mbps - 6Mbps DSL.

I should add a little qualifier to my statement - I PAY for something like 65/65, I just get anything from 95-105/95-105. One of those fiber connected to condos type deals or something. Much better than living in Southern California!

I pay $80/month for 65/5, because the lesser plan is 30/3 for $60, and I feel like it's worth the $20 for the almost double speed. I'm not even going to hold my breath for Google Fiber, because by the time it ends up in any of the neighborhoods I live in, I will have been priced out of this city. $40/month. Comcast used to have a 250gig monthly cap but I think they dropped that. I'm so glad I finally bought my own cable modem. I was renting it from Comcast for like 3 years Also, I'm in the startup capital of the country and there's really no choice in internet service. ATT only offer slow-as-balls DSL and there is no Google Fiber or Verizon FIOS ever coming here. It's just Comcast. Mu Zeta fucked around with this message at 10:54 on Oct 31, 2013 |

$130/mo 50/5 business class + 2x $5/mo static IPs (no ports blocked, servers allowed) When I first got it a few years ago it was one of the fastest cable connections in the country, pretty much only beaten by those lucky enough to be in areas where FiOS was considered competition, but now it seems everyone else has caught up and most providers offer similar or better where this is still the fastest I can get. Then again I really can't complain all that much about 50/5. edit: found a historical result from back in '11 That's a pretty big change in how it compares to the rest of the country's average, especially considering how anything above ~15-20mbit/sec tends to be ignored by anyone but geeks and businesses. wolrah fucked around with this message at 19:00 on Oct 31, 2013 |

Goddamnit. I'm in Kirkland Lake, and I'm stuck with Eastlink at 20/1 - the service has been solid, but its expensive, and going to 40 or higher gives me a bandwidth cap So jealous.

100/100 for $40.95/mo all fees and taxes included. Unfortunately it's only available in a very narrow strip of Minneapolis and they don't have plans/approval to expand. Makes me not want to move out of my otherwise crappy apartment.
