Figured since most of us spend a large amount of time on the internet why not talk about how we love our ISP's?

I pay 49.99/mo for these speeds, and this is on a night where netflix is probably running full speed on my ring.

So far no problems with port 80/443 which surpises me because I though verizon were dicks.

Also feel free to bitch about ISP's for how poo poo they can be; So extend your Epenis here http://www.speedtest.net/

You can. I have FiOS at home and use a Watchguard firewall as my router.

Assuming you don't have TV or phone through them:

  • Buy whatever router you like with an Ethernet WAN port
  • Hook router directly to the RJ45 port on your ONT (you will need to take off the cover that says "user service" to get at it.)
  • Call Verizon tech support and ask them to switch your ONT from coax to Ethernet
  • Ask them to release the DHCP lease so your router can pull a new IP
  • Profit!

You can still do it if you have TV/Phone (I have TV), but the topology is a little more complex, since you need to use the ActionTec as a MoCA bridge.

Does anyone know if satellite worth shelling out for?

If you hate low latency it can be nice.
