It's always fun to see how behind we are in the US. Ah well. I'm still pretty happy with a 50/25 connection at a reasonable price.

I have 200 down in Brooklyn and I pretty much am getting the proper speeds. Downtime isn't too terrible either. They are pretty consistent at my dads place in NJ as well. I'd say if you can't get FIOS or something equally fast cheaper then go for it.
