Hit 15 BST last night, gonna go back to Qufim and try to get BRD to 30. My plan for BST is to level it behind my main class for farming purposes - I went from 1-10 in the mines and got like 2k worth of nonsense, then 10-15 in the fumaroles for like 10k in landcrab meat and beehive chip. What I'm wondering is where would y'all recommend farming as a solo BST in particular? Anywhere I can make a decent amount in like, a not mind bending amount of time? Otherwise I was told I could do fishing and get close to 90 in "five or six hours a day for a week or so"

Yeah there seem to be a lot of confused people who are younger than the game itself running aimlessly around North Gustaberg, and Valkurm Dunes has been consecutively setting server records. Overall population has grown too, typically around 800 at off times and 1300 at peak, give or take a hundred

I don't find the retail game very appealing from what I've seen about the emphasis on gear collection, missions, etc. it seems fine for what it is and the logical evolution of the game but I have the free time right now, and there aren't any other MMOs that replicate the group dynamic or gear system that FFXI had in this period. I get the whole lol it's dumb and masochistic thing but it's no worse than project 1999. I'd almost argue it's less punishing, leveling on Nasomi has been a lot faster and easier than leveling my Shaman on P1999 was. I'm sure I'll burn out eventually but until then I'm honestly having fun fulfilling some boyhood goals

Yeah I've been concerned about Nasomi getting shut down, everyone on here is dismissive and the admin insists he has some system that absolutely means it won't get a C&D, but I can't imagine what that could possibly be since the server is on the East Coast of the US. That and the capricious bans / regular private server nonsense are both slightly worrying. I'm probably gonna grab retail while its on sale for $10 as a contingency plan, since they managed to retrieve my POL account from 2004.

I was into that but I never actually got a character to 75, so I really want to experience the zones as they were with other people while I have the time and there are players. Also, holy heck, I need a third account for a store in order to buy the seekers edition, which needed my password which I forgot cus it was saved, which requires a security question even with the link, which I forgot. So I couldn't buy it and had to email square support again

Yeah, but it is almost 100% likely FFXI mobile will be basically a completely different game with a tenuous at best relationship to the existing PC servers. It definitely will not allow people to play retail as it is from their phones, most people think its going to be some kind of weird spin off. But it could still convince square a C&D is worth it, calculating the awareness of the retail game via nasomi might not be worth it anymore

I played on a true classic server for quite awhile last year right before finding a full time job (you can see my posts in this thread for more) and it was quite an experience. I got BRD to 30, the farthest I've ever gotten in FFXI since I was 11 when I first played it on PS2 and just never had the wherewithal to get much further than Jeuno / the first airship pass. I wouldn't really call it fun in the regular sense but I found it an enormously enjoyable way to fill the time I had when I wasn't doing anything but smoking pot and firing off applications all day. that being said, I can't even do classic WoW now, a year later, with a girlfriend and an 8-4 office job, so classic FFXI would be totally impossible. what I'd love is some weird hybrid that is basically the same as classic and the emulator I was on, which had a huge playerbase and felt exactly like launch, but with QOL improvements (maps, quicker travel, free teleports, tele crystals by default, no quests for chocobo/airship, no death on boats) and, i dunno, 10-15x exp rates. FFXI remains my favorite MMO for so many reasons but all of them conflict with its ability to be played by adults with other commitments and I'm not even sure that particular contradiction can be bridged

On a whim I decided to try to reclaim my old FFXI account to get the collection for $10 and god, just like last time I made an attempt to do this, it's just so unbelievably difficult. Somehow the SE support portal is broken and it keeps telling me a required field is empty even though I've entered the relevant info in it, no matter how many times/different things I type in the box it won't let me submit it's genuinely enraging ed: anyone know how to get around this?  no matter what I type it tells me the field is empty. i tried the phone, email, and chat submission and none would let me reach someone without that field, which seems to be broken.

Yeah, I dunno, I downloaded from steam and it's not letting me in. I tried using the POL password and my square account password because it requires both somehow (???) and it kept telling me my PW was wrong, then on the third try it disabled login attempts for three failed password tries. I'm very confused as to how I can actually even log in now that I have bought the game and added the key to my SE account, and the support site indicates if you aren't getting in, you've probably forgotten your password and have to reinstall playonline or something. ugh ed: had to change my POL password on the website and then enter that AND my SE account password to get in. lmao ed2: now it's saying I don't have an active "content ID" even though the SE account says my account is active. hmm Frog Act fucked around with this message at 14:54 on Feb 28, 2020 |

thanks! I forgot about the whole, like, basic service plus paying per character. got my one character added and i'm good to go i think. gonna apply the world pass as soon as the updates finish. I think I'll make a Hume like I played on the private server and start out with RDM, then take BLM for my sub, then get BRD, and then see where that all takes me

Oh thanks I wouldn’t have even thought of that, I will definitely do so sincen it sounds like there are a lot more items and tokens in the mix then there are in classic For leveling the game is very solo friendly now right? Sorry about the triple post - now that I'm in, do I need Windower or anything? I can't find the graphics settings so i'm assuming I still have to go through and tweak all the info in the registry or whatever, but if I'm remembering correctly there's a good program that increases graphics/resolution without manual stuff, is that still applicable?

I’m pretty impressed with the windower graphics, it enhanced them enough my lovely laptop was starting to have trouble, so I’m turning them back down a bit. But wow it looks great, I can’t wait to see how it runs with all these tweaks installed on my real PC.

So I hit level 30 RDM, cool goons hooked me up with some gil, now I’m wondering what to level. My intention was to play BRD but will it be hard to “fit” into a trust and be effective? Someone in a linkshell told me BRD is useless without relics and high end gear, is that typical MMO exaggeration stuff? I have no interest in high end raids Besides that what is the current best leveling SJ for RDM? I’m gonna take WHM to 30 for BRD but I figure there might be other options Any other fun as heck jobs I should try? Historically I always wanted to try Paladin, but rune fencer looks pretty dope

Is COR a viable support class without the relics and intense high effort gear? Support and healing are my two main interests. I also don’t know anything about Scholar Ed: so I think rune fencer looks hella fun, both tank and DPS, cool plate armors, two handed swords. Is it always /BLU or is it /WAR? I’m leveling WHM to 20ish real quick for RDM subjob and them I’m gonna go unlock some advanced jobs, then do the missions with one of those, either COR or RUN. Cool, maybe I’ll just focus on red mage a bit since it has some good overlap and will make some of the other poo poo much more tolerable. Does having a sub job even matter much? Guess I should get WHM to 35 at some point and then go back and get it to 54 at cap?

I'll check the OP and hop in the discord, I don't voice chat much since I strongly prefer text but disc works for that too It seems like a major thing is doing the ROVs for the kis that give you significant passive bonuses. the first one gave me a permanent +30% exp bonus and I've heard having a job at cap yields a similar one, so I guess my first goal right now is to hit 99 with RDM to secure the extra bonus and make missions/subsequent ROVs up to a certain point easy. got to level 40 last night, saw garlaige citadel and the crawlers nest for the first time, was fun as heck. i'm close to refresh and I heard the first artifact weapon quest starts at 40, and as i understand it, RDM is a good soloer with trusts for NMs, missions, etc, so hopefully it will be helpful to have around. unlocked NIN but it seems kinda wack. like, by level 15, you have no damage dealing abilities, some random useless stuff, and only the one that seems any good is ichi but nobody tanks anymore so it doesn't have a major purpose for leveling. then looking at the other stuff like tonko: ichi and all the other ninjutsu I bought I'm not really seeing how it will be majorly useful, though I only bought it up to level 30 or so from the tenshodo HQ. Do they mostly rely on weapon skills as a fast hitting DPS thing these days? NIN seems like it's worth leveling to at least 54 as a relevant subjob for RDM, COR, and a bunch of other jobs. at least i can afford spells. i'm one level away from refresh and it's gonna be so satisfying buying and using that when I quit Nasomi because it was 400k and farming up 100k took a full week. also, Necrosaro, I will join the goon discord as DongQuixote and if you happen to be on any time in the next couple weeks and you see me on (Dongquixote on Asura) I'd be really pumped to get my hands on the echad ring. my understanding is i have to get it from the person who gave me the worldpass, or at least be grouped with them at the time, so let me know whenever and I will hop on

Haven’t had much time to play this weekend but the little time I did have has been doing mission 3-3, I think trying to do it sans mount was a big part of why I quit nasomi. I’m really beginning to appreciate the get around mechanisms in retail Also, what are a good set of trusts? I’ve been using Valinewhatever, Tenzen, the trust taru WHM, and just a random DD
