I've been thinking a lot about this game recently and and struggling with the idea of coming back. Help me decide goons: EDIT: Well apparently I had linked it to my Square Enix account, so now I'm in the middle of transferring. However I can't update any of my detailed info such as name and gender. Anyone know how to go about doing that? -I can't seem to find a guide or article about how hard it is to start a new character and get to max level. I take it a lot of the pre Abyssea content is left unchanged and still a bitch to go through. -Most solo leveling guides seem to follow the same path I took in the early days grouping. Did the thing where I finally decided that instead of picking my old character back up I'd just create a new one and it was the right decision because I just hid 75 in 10 days. I also moved to bahamut and there are a lot less racists compared to Asura.

Granted how many of those are jp only/bots/actually capable of helping you in endgame etc are unknown, but so far I haven't had trouble with the market board like others constantly bring up. Server transfers are $10 and if Asura's toxicness is too much for you come be chill over on bahamut.

I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out what was causing a microstutter every 5 or so seconds in game. Tried it with WIndower, ashita and vanilla client and still had the same issue. Turns out it was because I had left "enable gamepad" on in the FFXI config utility when I didn't have a gamepad plugged in, and that microstutter was the game trying to find one every five or so seconds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4s8ZXrUrDs

Dancer is a good sub for it's sneak and invis jig. If you don't have any of those unlocked yet, it takes about only a bit to level them. If you have spare gil, sneak and invis potions also work, but you're essentially throwing money away every time you get lost.

Having a social circle to turn to in game helps, in both terms of having a helping hand with things you're having difficulty with and to steer you in the right direction in terms of most efficient use of your time. If you're on Asura, you should join the discord linked below and see if someone is willing to escort you around to the various areas you need to hit to unlock jobs and such. On the other hand every other server has at least 90% less racist/homophobic/sexist/etc poo poo being said in shout chat (or, at least did when a bunch of streamers weren't playing). Doesn't mean the other servers are free of it, but it's super concentrated on asura. EDIT: basically play on an empty server until you decide you're at a point where you want to hire mercs, pay $10 and world transfer.
