The Blizzard website won't recognize my CD Keys as valid.
This is the actual problem, solve it don't work around it. Make sure it's not something silly like punctuation/spaces, and then contact blizzard support if you still can't make it work.

War3s cdkey/product key is definitely not in the registry. It is stored encrypted in war3.mpq, I thiiiiink maybe in the header or maybe it was tacked on at the end or something I forget. But it's not in a file archived within the MPQ. (MPQ is an archive format like ZIP or RAR, as you probably figured out on google.) Back when I was into war3 modding (literally ten loving years ago) as far as I can recall nobody was interested in working out how it was encrypted in order to replace it. I believe the offset of the cdkey was located but I don't think anyone back then took it any further than that. Kind of a solution wanting for a problem when you can just install/reinstall with whatever cdkey you want. Heh.

So uh. Any chance you can get a hold of a physical copy on CDs perhaps from a friend or something and see if that installer will accept your cdkey? You might spend a while patching to the current version from there but you'd have the right cdkey in your war3.mpq so you can use battle.net again. If you can't get legit copies on CD you could consider filesing it if you can find unmodified CD images. Then instead of using a keygen or anything like that you use your legitimate key. The way you describe the downloader thing failing is really weird, but with the installer on the original discs I wouldn't imagine having a similar problem since you do have a valid cdkey.

they should've coded it so replays aren't worthless.
Please explain more about how this should've been coded then. How would you handle replays in a way that allows reasonable file size for replay files but does not encounter this problem?

All I know is you could watch BW replays from previous versions (mostly) bug free and you could also watch them with other people.
Like the other guy said, this was only the case if you're watching a replay from a previous version that didn't have significantly different gameplay. Back when BW was younger and there were more changes between patches, there were lots of issues where watching a replay from an old patch would be really messed up. They didn't really change BW balance/gameplay after 1.08, so replays after that may have been pretty good I don't remember anymore.

See here http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft/Portal:Beginners/Replays#Common_Bugs_and_Fixes
and here http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/brood-war/351904-how-can-i-watch-old-replays
for further brood war replay information.

But yeah the other criticisms of war3 replays I agree with. SC2 replays are indeed way better, the only downside is you have to play SC2

Oh god now you've done it.

I actually like SC2 and still play it but I was just dropping the obligatory "sc2 is dead/sucks" meme cause somebody was gonna say it so why not get it over with. Now a bunch of people are probably going to write a bunch of words about why they don't like SC2 though.

Congratulations, you have low standards!
Well there are very few other recent games I like

So I think it's more an issue of bad taste than low standards.
