Diablerie is a capital crime amongst the Camarilla. Now the Sabbat on the other hand! You can also share a vampire's blood between a few diablerists if you want to boost your chances of subduing them, but I believe they must be 2 generations above everyone for there to be a level gain.

Also, there are stories of an impatient higher generation newbie skipping too many generations down (i.e. 13th to 9th). A little after that the diablerist started having episodes where they'd display the mannerisms and personality of the victim...

I'm really leaning towards the blessed low-gen childe trying to do it their way too soon and getting dusted after siring the PC theory. It's the only thing that makes sense... besides the fact that it's a MacGuffin and we should just accept it because it has to happen for the game to happen without too much restrictive baggage. But then we'd be missing the point of posting in a gatz/WoD LP.

MJ12 posted:

Really, in the end all of them are a bit about how idealism gets crushed by cynicism and the need to take the 'easy way' outweighs your moral code, and you slowly keep doing it until you become a monster like what you tried to fight. It's most explicit in Mage, but even in Vampire. Most vampires, I figure, weren't incredibly bad people in life. Just normal, regular people, maybe with some uncomfortable secrets, who got turned into monsters and tried to make the best of it. And this is what you end up getting. Also, this is why I thought Vampire needed a handful of Not Awful elders occasionally (although it might have had that). Having a few people who have managed to keep that nobility makes the fall of the rest even more horrific, because it wasn't inevitable.

In the end, in the World of Darkness, it isn't grim and dark and evil because becoming a supernatural makes you Chaotic Evil. It's grim and dark and evil because the good people gave up and took the easy way out.

Borderlands kept reminding me of Vampire and now I know why. e: spoilers for BL2 in the link

The Colt .38 is good for taking out the zed trash but I always loved stealth killing vamps and draining humans because it was so drat reliable. For the Steyr AUG and auto-shotty just rock til they drop. Those came in handy in a frustrating late game mandatory combat segment that had some long halls.

Also if you hack your stats at the start of the game Jack has hidden dialogue where he calls you a cheater.

Huh, so that's what it looks like when you don't massacre everyone in the Astrolite house. Send Copper after LaCroix.

The music in this game is really, really good at setting the tone. It's up there with Thief and Hitman's soundtracks. It's also inspired some decent (depending how into goth/industrial you are) music replacement mods. There's minor location spoilers if anyone in this thread has actually never played this game, in which case what the hell's wrong with you?

Sounds like that's what I'll do from now on. Good idea about shorter updates allowing more discussion - I was kind of disappointed that there was little to no discussion about many things that happened in part 4. I guess that's what happens when there's so much going on.

Well, let's see what I can do!

Mercurio, arms dealer, although I never bothered to find him and visit in-game. What am I missing out on? Also a warehouse full of armed goons--just another day in LA, nothing to worry about. Definitely still Act 1 material.

Tung. It's a totally artificial gaming setup. Forget about Rolf's car. Of course there's some big drama happening right as you're turned. Naturally the solution is to send in the newbie that everyone respects! Nobody will be bitter that some daynight-one early adopter got the luck of the low generation draw over them.

That diner is the most noir thing ever...

I like to pretend people are willing to give you personal effects or ask you to track down someone else because they a) think you're a total sop and can be argued into doing their chores (if MMOs are any indication, they're right!) and b) I mentally like to pretend there's some deeper flavor dialogue where you convincingly pass yourself off as an acquaintance of the missing party, just like I like to pretend not every human reverted to anarcho-primitivism at the end of the reimagined BSG series!

Revealing who you are to your new thrall right away is pretty hilarious if you are doing a low humanity run. Ever massacred an entire hospital and SWAT team? It's so cinematic!

E's disposition towards you is either random or bugged, and I have no idea if you're using the same patch I did (and I used multiple patches through my history with this game). Probably bugged, knowing what we're dealing with. My only regret is the we're never able to brutally murder the creepy ghoul selling blood. He's so annoying.

Then again, I might be completely wrong because at that point, my patience with some of the more annoying gameplay decisions started running out - kind of like Troika's deadline or budget or general will to live - and I might have missed the subtext.

I wouldn't actually mind the anarchist segments but I think I recall gatz saying earlier in this thread that he/she/it holds anarcho-something beliefs. I like the history of anarchist philosophers and seems to tie well with the idea of immortal creatures who were around back in that time. But knowing it's gatz's personal belief makes me uneasy waiting for the off-topic anarchy effortpost when we get to that one downtown bar. Most goons can't restrain themselves.

Don't be that guy, gatz. Please. It's interesting in short bursts.

Upon further reflection, the thing about Anarchism in Vampire, is that it seems that it's like an even grimmer, more hopeless version of the normal thing (which is kind if the World of Darkness' thing, to be fair), in that not only is the establishment rich, powerful, and controlling the status quo, they're also undead vampire wizards.
Haha, The Man is also a vampire, basically.

It's fun to bring up the anarchism in the games just to mock the Atlanta club kiddies' idea of it, because that's who created White Wolf. Critiquing it and seeing how much was truly a grimdark interpretation or a "AHRGHG NO RULES" understanding of it is fair game. It's probably 50/50. It's easy to give WW too little credit after you've facepalmed your way through a Mummy book.

gatz posted:

I admit that most of the anarchism talk in the last update was not necessary, but it's one of the few things I can do to make the LP unique. It's all good so far IMHO. I just didn't want to read an anarchist version of a John Galt speech in an update. What you've got planned sounds good.

Our "relationship" with Heather isn't as creepy as it could be. I don't know what Troika or :wesp: did about her assets, but you should show the thread what the other clothing options are. Definite basement dweller territory.

Pisha is interesting but it's one of the more poorly built quests in a game that usually gives you multiple options. You can either silence the last witness and get a chance to get some powerful artifacts or get ready to fight infinite zombies, sweetheart. It's not a morally or practically gray choice either. Send a completely unlikable one note character to his early grave and preserve the masquerade orrrr don't.
