Viking should host a USAC pre-1982 tribute night. There are some Silver Crown races up on youtube that feature guys like Unser, etc.

also, does anyone want to do "Dario Franchitti-Tribute to a champion". I kind of want to host a night to honor him, and feature the '98 Road America race, '07 and 12 500's.

Also, a "Dario Franchitti-Honoring a Champion" night.

I'd like to call him up some time and ask him what the hell he did, because his accomplishments sound amazing. My dad's only met him once, (sadly at a funeral).

Tried asking Varsha and all I got was "Look him up on google". Which well..hasn't provided me much.

My background was in Stock and Indy.

Prior to all of that my knowledge of him was "Well, he raced in CART for a year, and the Indy 500 twice".

His path to Indy is kind of unusual because how many folks from Indiana have you seen race the 500 WITHOUT a background in Silver Crown?

Ok no one ever showed up, so tomorrow at 8pm EST I'm gonna put on the 1980 and 1981 Lumbermens 500's from Mid-Ohio. Can-Am and GT combined fields, like 40 cars on the track. Relative parity between the two classes. It's actually 3 classes, because the protos are the 5 liter F5000 style, plus a sub-2 liter, Formula 2 version. Stuff like Frisbee Lola's and Holbert Chevrolet's. Then the GT class is stuff like Porsche 935's and Chevy Monza's.

So 8pm EST on 1/4/14. They are some pretty cool and obscure races, well worth a watch IMO.

I wanted to show up, the link didn't work. :smith:.

I'd really like to see that, just because I wasn't following F1 at the time.

I seem to recall reading something about Eddie Cheever doing races with Varsha back in the 90's, and Danny Sullivan of all people doing F1 races. (which is odd because his F1 career was literally a year).

When did ABC/ESPN give up the rights to F1 to Speed? I swear I watched the 05 race on ABC. (I didn't follow it, just my dad and brother both were more interested to see what was going at IMS).

But yeah, if you have any more US Broadcasts, I'd love to see those.

Fuzzy, I do remember just for the USGPs in the early 2000s ABC televised them with Jenkins. I think it was a special one-off contract ABC got from Bernie that probably paid more than Speed would. Also Speedvision took over in 98 for Formula 1.

After the 2002 Indy 500 they mention showing the Monaco GP after the race with Danny Sullivan being on site for the event.
