There's no way that the Germans can cart an entire airport back to the Reich, they don't have the resources. If the airport has Nazi convictions, it's fighting a do or die battle.

But Göring promised!! Maybe with a fleet of Zeppelins lifting it off?

You don't have to be rude if you want to be taught about the Blue Division, or SS volunteers from various countries.

Sorry, I think I misread you, I thought you meant good socialists in eastern europe were literally volunteering to work for a year in Siberian gulag-esque camps.

It's okay, I figured as much after my reply. Which would be a funny thought - "Canadian workers! Want to take part in fighting against fascism? Join the NKVD international volunteers crew in pictoresque Kolyma!" *drawing of a stoic camp guard standing in a watch tower*

Didn't CIA prepare to arrange a military coup should the communists rise to power in Italian elections? A coup in Turkey just means continuity.

Was that widely understood? Given it wouldnt really become clear why it worked on a scientific level for quite a while.

It was understood to be a prerequisite for brewing beer and beer stayed good for a long time unlike unboiled water stored in oak barrels, so people must have figured it out I think.

Who was the worst leader of Nazi Germany, Hitler or Dönitz? I'm leaning toward Dönitz, he lost the WW2 in just one week and couldn't remain Reichspräsident for more than 20 days.

Sweden didn't stop acting like a great power before they lost Finland to Russia.

It's fortunate that they didn't participate in the Crimean War, things could have turned really awkward for everyone.

Well, apart from them taking Åland when offered, that could have made some things less awkward later on.

Speaking of monomolecular, is your girlfriend still trying to find your penis?

How appropriate, you fight like a cow.

omg I was watching Twilight's Last Gleaming (1977), a movie about a US general trying to start WW3 with some nukes, and they had a Hetzer (painted ink blue for reasons) posing as a US tank. How unusual, normally it's post-war tanks remodeled as WW2 tanks. A Bridge Too Far came the same year and they had Leopards in place of Jagdpanthers or whatev's, too bad the production companies couldn't switch their assets around...

On of my favorite instances of this is the German army using T-34s in Force 10 from Navarone.

At least that's the same time frame, and Wehrmacht actually did employ captured T-34's in numbers so it could have happened (although not in Yugoslavia), and is much more plausible than the German Shermans in Tea with Mussolini.

And it's nice that the film was actually shot in the country where the story was set, even though things could have been different:

quote:

Cinematographer Christopher Challis recalled that the film was originally considered to be filmed in Pakistan until someone realised that Pakistanis did not resemble Yugoslavians or Germans and the expense to make them appear as such on film would be financially prohibitive.

Yugoslavia, I imagine.

Now that I think about it, Cross of Iron was also released in 1977! Force 10 From Navarone came a year later, what's the odds of the same tanks being used on both sets? Bonus brownie points if you can tie the same vehicles to some real battle in Bosnia...

An interesting battle in WWII to have a game based on would be the British Invasion of French Syria, just to see people puzzled about the fact that French troops actually fought the allies.

Been there, done that with The Operational Art Of War 3 (or some such).

The Bristol Blenheim: A light bomber designed to be fast, it had been built with the Biplane fighters of the day in mind; unfortunately, by the time World War 2 rolled around, monoplane fighters like the Bf 109 had rather moved the bar, and they were very vulnerable to fighters. They did serve as early night fighters during the blitz with some success, and like some German medium bombers, they received a far bit of development to make them fit into new roles, first becoming the Beaufort, and later the Beaufighter. Each revision saw it's usefulness jump quite a bit, making it a little difficult to take the piss out of the original design.

Finnish Airforce's Blenheim BL-139's gunner Yrjö Hammaren shot two I-153's down during one bombing mission in Winter War so yes, certainly good enough against biplanes. Also so darn British looking, in a good sense.

What's the record of air victories achieved by a bomber during one flight? And no, a torpedo bomber sinking an aircraft carrier doesn't count!
