Where do I start with good, recent (like last ten years) Trios tournaments? No Chikara though, I don't dislike it but I've seen all of it.

I've long maintained that the exceptional Chikara matches seem to typically involve people from outside the company, such as Ibushi here or [insert notable King of Trios match here], and this is usually met with very angry responses from Chikara fans. When I ask "okay, well can you name me a great Chikara match since?" I then get no response. I remember thinking High Noon and Chikarasaurus Rex were decent, but even those shows are from like, three or four years ago. So, here's the place to ask. What are the great Chikara matches from this decade that I should go check out? I'm not interested in angles or storyline payoffs.

I mean, is it THAT controversial a thing to say that the best Chikara matches come largely from outsiders? Chikara IS essentially a training school promotion, isn't it? They've produced a few breakout stars but for the most part they've got people in various stages of their training and development playing out Quack's crazy ideas. So yeah, I expect to see better wrestling when I watch a King of Trios that brings in a bunch of veteran, serious talent. Like, NXT SHOULDN'T be as good as it is except that its filling up with these massively experienced veterans who just need "fine tuning" or are waiting for WWE to figure out just how to use them. But if it was a full promotion of trainees like Enzo, Mojo, Corbin, Bliss, and Charlotte it would be much more uneven.

I remember thinking High Noon and Chikarasaurus Rex were decent, but even those shows are from like, three or four years ago. Every Trios show since is incredibly solid, including last year's, but what sticks out to me is the latter half of King of Trios 2012 Night 3. It was a great wave of matches that were all very different. First you had a comedy 8-man tag of Chikara and Japanese dudes, which is one of the all-time funniest matches they've done. Then Manami Toyota and Kaori Yoneyama vs. Commando Bolshoi and Tsubasa Kuragaki, which doesn't really count because none of them are Chikara, but whatever. Jigsaw vs. Tadasuke isn't anything mind-blowing, but it's still very good, especially for a Jigsaw match. Then the main event and tournament finals is Team ROH (Mike Bennett and the Young Bucks) vs. Spectral Envoy (UltraMantis, Hallowicked and Frightmare). There is some story stuff in there, but it's still the match of the weekend. It's after that that Chikara's quality took a huge downturn.

You can find some stuff. The following aren't matches but it is a series of videos chronicling part of the Lawler/Bockwinkel feud over the AWA title leading up to their $500 Dollars Per Punch match. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WL3LJMQmKpA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmsHSzMIcLU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUoVjxavJS0 Bockwinkel is really the star of the promos but you'll get a good feel for how great the Jerry Lawler comeback was. You should be able to easily find Lawler vs Kerry Von Erich from AWA Superclash III, it's a great bloody brawl with a dumb finish. Jerry Lawler vs Bill Dundee Losers Leaves Town was one of the biggest matches in Memphis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhkYYKPLdQA I can't find the episode that built up to this right now, it's fantastic. There's great Lawler matches with Savage, Austin Idol and a pretty good one with I think Fujinami. It might have been Jumbo, I forget if he went to All Japan or New Japan.

Stiffer, treated far more as a sport, submissions and counter submissions make up most the match. As a result even the later world of sport would have guys selling a punch like a chairshot. Search World of Sport on Youtube and click on anything that doesn't feature Giant Haystacks or Big Daddy.

Shimmer and Shine are fine, but maybe curate them a bit in case you find some of it too racy for a nine year old. I don't know if Joshi would hold her attention but there's enough of it on Youtube.
