I'm pretty sure I installed that and didn't have any problems. When I said not much else works I meant not much in the way of item modifications work. Did you install the added IWD weapons? I think that's what it was called and that's what hosed the dialogs and item descriptions for me.

I didn't install them since they come with the EE version as standard.

Is there a way of changing your character's voice once you've started the game? I can't seem to find it in EEkeeper.

BG2EE Rasaad quest question: I've just helped to defend the heretic temple from the dark moon guys. Is that it until ToB?. So far I've enjoyed his story line and his interjections haven't been annoying but it just feels like he's not pulling his weight so I'm gonna ditch him so I can run with a smaller party.

Are Rings/Cloaks of Protection +k worthwhile in BG2? It seems pretty easy to compensate for the AC and THAC0 bonuses and still be able to use other magical gear.

I'd say yeah unless you get something really cool to stick in the slot. Full plate +ring of protection is still pretty great, cos you get the +1 save too.

If you want to fight in Melee and get lots of storm theme spells, go with Fighter/Druid or Cleric/Ranger.

I'd do the latter (or fighter/cleric if you've used the fixpack to allow grand mastery for multiclass) for the cool Storm of Vengeance

Just finished ToB. I held quite a lot back for the final final battle, especially kickass spells, but it turns out the combination of tanking magic resistance then 6 smites (with improved alacrity) combined with mazzy, sarevok and valygar all greater whirlwinding is a bit overkill. Imoen did't get to cast anything with her improved alacrity :)

Holy mackerel is Rasaad's content in BG2EE SoA bad. I thought Neera's quest was pretty good writing/content wise so thought this would be the same but... Yikes. I am literally jaw on the floor with how bad that was.

I mean, not only were there multiple total nonsense comments from Viconia made in complete ignorance of everything the party has gone through together, but Rasaad is asking me to make his life choices for him when we just met a few minutes ago? Most of the dialogue trees were like something out of an RPG for idiots where the options are always 1) Hurr Hurr 2) Cleverly play along 3) Tell everyone to gently caress themselves and die. Also, at one point my character had the option of making a joke about finding the keys to his apartment in Athkatla. This is like grade D- amateur mod quality writing.

Just wow. Talk about cheapening an otherwise phenomenal game...

Yeah, that's why I'm not expecting much from Siege of Dragonspear.

Also what exactly are thieves good at besides opening locks and finding traps? They seem to lack the murder potential of rogues from other games.

Also is my party completely broken from too much common sense and should I start over? Are specialist kits just bad compared to their base classes because that's the general impression I'm getting Cavaliers are worse than paladins (fortunately I discovered that in the tutorial), necromancers are worse than plain wizards, assassins suck at the things you would use a thief for but also suck at ganking people because they're D&D thieves.

Traps are pretty excellent

TOB's so loving weird. A lich promising a merchant twenty years of success in exchange for his soul, and then pursuing the man when he reneges on the contract, stealing the souls of his loved ones as he goes, should be an adventure module, an event of significance. Not a random-rear end single area sidequest with roughly equal importance given to it as stopping a girl getting shaken down by idiot mercenaries.

haha exactly the same happened to me!

significance wise, by this point liches are small fry

Holy crap, I think I might have actually gotten the hang of BG2.

I'm doing the Unseeing Eye quest, and I was able to take out the group of priests you find down in the center. It took me a couple of tries, but what I did was cast Remove Fear and Invisibility on the whole party, positioned everyone next to an enemy, and after I started attacking, I cast Horror, which scattered a good handful of the mages. After taking out the ones who were unaffected, I managed to pick off the ones who escaped with projectiles.

I then had Aerie cast Sanctuary and wander over to get the item you need for the quest, and she ended up dying to the Unseeing Eye (along with Minsc when he went berserk). Bizarrely, I was able to get my Dwarven Defender PC to take him out 1-on-1 with little trouble, but I decided to reload and try it again without losing any characters. Unfortunately, when I tried the 1-on-1 method again with a bunch of buffs (Death Ward, Free Action, Improved Invisibility), I ended up dying. I'm not sure how it works, but my weapons were ineffective against him until I cast Draw Upon Holy Might. It took a couple of tries (there was one where Aerie and Keldorn died, but when I resurrected Keldorn with Harper's Call, his Charisma was too low to reequip his armor), but I managed to take him out without losing anyone. I also managed to take out the Beholder in the northern section of the map with no issue.

Of course now, I'm stuck on the fight with the four Gauths that spam magic at you, but I've read that using Fire Elemental summons against them is a good plan.

That's got to make for some weird continuity, seeing as how she's in the BG2 novel.

you should just zap the unseeing eye with the quest rod

That was another method I read about. Problem is that I'd have to reload an earlier save to go and get that (or return to the caves once I get the shield), and I think at that price, I'd lose most of the money you need to move to Chapter 3.

Oh, that right! I guess it would have been easier for me to use the rod the game told me to use instead of just sticking it in the quick slot bar and totally forgetting about it. :downs:

Still, it's impressive I beat him without the rod, right?

I guess so, I've never tried w straight up fight with it

Holy poo poo the new Dragonspear UI is beautiful. Actually readable fonts! Clean lines with right angles! I hope someone ports it to BG2:EE.

Speaking of Dragonspear, now that Scott Brooks fixed SoD mod support, I'm wondering how I should play it, whether to install the very limited set of mods I played BG1 with and fill in the last gap in my old character's playthrough, or go mod crazy with BWS and roll a new character? I was actually going to do that in 1.3 and did the Candlekeep bit but the IWD2/Dragon Age/Pillars style weapon switching automatically makes 2.0 better.

It's in bg2ee already.
Can you go straight into SoD? I'm not sure I can be bothered with slogging through bg again.
