You spent $930 on insanely useless crap that you don't need. While you were late with getting a paycheck. Immediately after recently taking out a payday loan. And then you overdrafted your bank account. You need to be more realistic about your spending. IE stop buying whatever the gently caress you want, especially if you want to buy a house in 2 years.

What I find most disturbing is that, given their circumstances, they blew that money on insanely useless crap when his sister is working two jobs and soliciting money to adopt their nieces who live with them. If you're going to be making lousy financial decisions, at least make the ones that help your family. Likewise, if the rest of the family is struggling to get by and the OP is spending like he's a millionaire, I can see how they might feel resentful.

Pretty sure my parents had that exact same couch. I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but you really should sort out if and when your wife is going back to work so you can start looking for a good daycare. Infant care is particularly expensive and may eat up a good chuck (or even most) of her paycheck. Depending on how much she makes, what kind of a job it is and whether you need her insurance, it may not make sense for her to go back for the first year.

As an aside, I don't think he could possibly save enough to cover a 10-day NICU stay in the US. My portion of emergency post-birth surgery was $600 after insurance just for the doctor. The anesthesiologist and everything else under the sun were billed separately. Oh, and that was all charged separate from the birth itself. I honestly don't know what young people who have kids with serious medical complications do in the US. Go bankrupt? Charity care? Family?
