I think for a couple months it's a great idea to see how hard you can swing the pendulum in the frugal direction. Then you find a middle ground balance from there, and it feels like you're spending so much more, even though it's much less than what you used to spend.

Everyone is different and will have different success with various strategies. For me, I go on extreme kicks for a month or two, then balance out from there. I've come to accept this character trait of mine, so I plan around it.
