"A self-diagnosed nymphomaniac recounts her erotic experiences to the man who saved her after a beating."

IMDB page

Offical trailer (very NSFW)

After seeing the trailer, I am extremely excited about this film (as I am whenever any LvT film is about to hit). Considered the third in the trilogy of Antichrist and Melancholia, there are a few rumors circulating around this film:

-The sex is real (although this has been disputed, and von Trier has said that they're superimposing pornstar genetalia, which still implies real sex)

-Shia Lebouf auditioned by sending Lars von Trier a sex tape of him and his girlfriend

-The film is over 5 hours long, and will be cut down to 4.5 hours and released in two parts:

quote:

The Cannes Film Festival has confirmed that the film will not qualify for competition at next’s year’s fest but has suggested it could screen von Trier’s original 5 ½ hour director’s cut of Nymphomaniac. Von Trier allowed his original cut to be trimmed down to appease distributors, who may have balked at the project’s marathon length.

Releases on Christmas Day in Denmark, see you at the premiere! :gizz:

You should really see Dogville (and maybe Manderlay if you like it). Dogville is probably the most tolerable LvT film that I can think of (and that's saying a lot). It's a lot like Kill Bill, except where Kill Bill is 1% torture of the woman and 99% revenge, Dogville is the opposite.

Never seen a LVT movie before, is it a coin toss whether it will be good or bad?

He's a very polarizing figure. Most people tend to either love him or hate him. Antichrist, for example, holds a 49% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, received 3.5/4 stars from Ebert, was nominated for the Palmr d'Or at Cannes but ended up winning a special "Anti-award" created specifically to admonish the film. Personally I think it's one of the best films of 2009.

A theater can probably do only one showing of a 5 hour movie a day in prime hours, even being able to do two is a big difference for them. I'm sure that's a concern.

This and also distribution companies have learned that they can literally make double profits by splitting movies in two.

See: Harry Potter pt 7, Twilight, The Hobbit, Hunger Games, etc.

So, this happened

quote:

A cinema audience of children waiting to view the hit Disney animation Frozen were accidentally shown a trailer for explicit art house sex epic Nymphomaniac.

Parents in the auditorium in Tampa, Florida, reportedly struggled to cover the eyes of their offspring, while others headed swiftly for the exits, as an apparent technical error saw the promotional clip for Danish agent provocateur Lars von Trier's salacious new film suddenly hit the big screen.

"They put in the filler, it looked like Steamboat Willie, the old Mickey Mouse cartoon, and then all of a sudden it goes into this other scene," grandmother Lynn Greene told My Fox Tampa Bay. "It seemed like forever when you're trying to, you know, cover a little guy's eyes. I didn't have enough hands to cover his ears too and he got the sound down real good.

"You're talking, what, a PG-rated movie to all of a sudden have an R-rated scene up there for little children?" she added. "My concern is that there should be safeguards in place so that this doesn't happen again."

The trailer has been described by Vanity Fair as one of the most explicit ever to be shown in mainstream cinemas. A teaser trailer was briefly removed from YouTube last month after apparently falling foul of the site's rules on nudity and sexual content. Von Trier's much-hyped film, which features Uma Thurman, Stellan Skarsgård, Christian Slater, Jamie Bell and Shia LaBeouf, will use digital trickery and body doubles to portray its famous stars having sex. It is due to premiere in Copenhagen on Christmas Day and is then likely to hit the festival circuit, with a possible appearance at Cannes in May.

If you think the sex scenes in this movie are too much, have you seen Blue is the Warmest Color?
