MOD EDIT: As Croatoan and Pretentious Food before her, Wroughtirony has escaped the feeble bonds of this world and left us without a chairman. If one of you is willing to step up and coordinate this, please PM your friendly local mod.

Without further ado, I present to you the rules for the longest running of goon cooking competitions, IRON CHEF SOMETHING AWFUL:

What is ICSA?
ICSA (Iron Chef Something Awful) is a series of online cooking contests loosely based on the Iron Chef TV series. In each contest, contestants must design and execute a menu based on whatever theme the chairman has chosen. The winner is picked in a poll that usually pops up a few days after the deadline, and REAL PRIZES usually get shipped out in a week or two. The chairman has nearly unlimited power to decide the rules of their specific event. Most entries are multi-course meals where the theme ingredient is featured in each course.

How do I enter?
Post a new thread for your entry, and link it in the chairman’s thread. A typical entry will include recipes and pictures of mise en place and major steps, but participants are encouraged to be creative in the way they present their entry as well as in their execution. A chairman may also add specific challenges or constraints in their ICSA regarding how they want you to enter.

What about NICSA?
NICSA (Newbie Iron Chef Something Awful) differs from ICSA in that it excludes ICSA winners, regulars and professional chefs from entering the final poll. (You can still enter if you work the line at Applebees.) The spirit of NICSA is to encourage as many people as possible to participate with a chance of winning, since the regular ICSA can be daunting due to the number of culinary heavy hitters who regularly enter.

Am I a regular or a newbie?
If you have to ask, you’re probably a newbie. If you're a novice cook, even if you've posted a bunch of times, go ahead and enter. Worst case scenario is you cook an awesome thing and don't get to be in the voting. PM your chairman if you are really on the fence.

So how do these prizes work?
That’s up to the chairman! Usually there’s a prize for first place, and the chairman may give prizes out to the top 3 or his or her personal favorite. Sometimes, particularly altruistic users may donate prizes to their picks as well.

How often do they happen?
It’s flexible, but generally every 4-6 weeks. We usually take the holidays (Nov-Jan) off.

How do I host an ICSA?
Shoot me a PM or post here! I will do my best to keep an updated list of who is up next. If we have to skip you for whatever reason, PM me or post when you're ready to host and I'll put you in the next slot.

How soon after the last ICSA should I post my ICSA?
You have two weeks from the end of the previous ICSA (close of voting) to post your ICSA or get in touch with me. After two weeks your slot goes to the next person and you go to the end of the line.

I am an angry chairman and I think your rules are dumb!
What rules, bro? It's your ICSA. PM me if you have questions.

POST YOUR ENTRIES ON THE WIKI!

We're doing the NICSAs monthly, right? So mine would be in April?

Also, is there sense in promoting this with GBS anymore now that it has turned into an abandoned ship full of cannibalistic rats floating adrift in the north sea?

Yes and no, unless there's a lot of disagreement re: GBS. I don't mind the idea of a GBS thread so much as I don't want to put in the effort to make one when it would probably attract more cannibalistic rats than good entries anyway. Any chairman who wants to promote their N/ICSA this way is of course still welcome to.

I'm certainly not going to troll GBS for contestants, once the voting is up I was planning on posting in GBS to get some voting traffic.

Lessons Learned from ICSA 59:

Squashy Nipples posted:

Don't do this. We gained no useful traffic from my post in GBS.

Also, asking people to state how many times they had entered came off weird, and I wouldn't want it to skew people's votes, so I don't think we should do that again. My intention was to come up with some honorable mentions for newbies, but that didn't really work out well, either. We have the separate NICSA, that's plenty.

As far as I know, the idea behind 23 was an abomination, a crime against humanity so heinous that the only option was to remove all trace it ever happened so that our shame may remain unknown, unknowable.

59 was just a glitch- it never happened. For some reason we went right from 58 to 60.
