My vote is cranberry, since I carmelize onions all over the place but have only had cranberries dried or canned. This will be an opportunity to play with something new. But yeah, if you're looking to get utter cooking newbies on board, onion isn't a bad bet.

Book for NICSA, vizzler for ICSA it is then. I won a NICSA a long time ago when I was a poor graduate student and got a nice sousvide out of a very generous prize. I will gladly pony up some nice prizes or amazon gift cards now that I am making a nicer salary (and still use that drat sousvide every weekend!). I would love the chance to pay that forward. I'm thinking beans as a NICSA theme. You should do it! I also can't compete (coughcoughduetoalsowinningnicsacoughcough) but I love seeing what people make.

I'd happily be part of whatever! I can't start it because I am incapable of starting that sort of thing, any thread I make dies immediately. I actually think I even tried to start a tortilla challenge that didn't go anywhere, once. So I'm gonna hang back here and hope someone with charisma can do this.
