I think this fits better here than uspol, it's a nice rah-rah write-up.

poo poo, that a loving beautiful world. Making Kennedy irrelevant would make me almost as happy as Scalia dropping dead.

Keep and bear arms. The supreme court is going to legalize open carry everywhere aren't they.

A 4-4 court will punt the poo poo out of this case.

Scalia dying and dragging HB2 and other assorted lovely laws into the grave with him is still making me smile.

Between HB2 and AA, Kennedy is slowly working his way off of my shitlist for that gawdawful Hobby Lobby decision.

This ruling also kills those right, or do people need to mount legal challenges, cite this case, and have the courts in those states kill each law?

All struck down at once.

5th Circuit just knocked down Texas' Voter ID law. Discriminatory under the VRA.

the one good thing is that because the district court is to wait to re-decide if texas is a racist shithole (yes, it is), if the district court then reaffirms it is then the supreme court probably has 9 justices again and a chance to undo some of the damage to the VRA if the 5th circuit tries to gut that holding

Imagining the sour look on John Roberts' face makes it worth the wait.

Let them. With luck, Hillary will already be president-elect and they'll be facing an even more hostile environment at SCOTUS.

Edit: Gettin' hype at the idea of John Roberts presiding over a court that affirms the VRA. That old gently caress has spent his whole career trying to unravel laws protecting minority voting rights.
