A little bit of a crosspost from the gay marriage thread, but a federal judge just ruled Utah's same-sex marriage ban unconstitutional and repeatedly cited last summer's DOMA ruling.

Or to be more specific, repeatedly quoting Scalia's dissent in support of legalizing gay marriage.

Trolling the troll? awesome!

There's an easy way to force that though, you just have a gay couple walk into the courthouse and ask for a marriage license. If they're denied, you sue.

Once the first gay couple marries there is little recourse to turn back the clock. In theory you can stop any future marriages but I have a hard time seeing that happen

We are attempting to talk about legal subjects, and the effect these legalities have. It's easier when there isn't someone loving around and 'stirring the pot' disingenuously.

Why do you think there's some sort of problem, in the SCOTUS thread, in talking about the politics surrounding a case, or the effects of the case?

We're long past legal subject discussion. It's a gang pile on one poster who pissed everyone off.

What happens if a Justice dies between arguments and the release of opinions? Does the replacement Justice get to vote? Do they reargue?
