BlitzkriegOfColour posted:Why are white supremacists always drawn to the punk music? Because it's simple, easy to understand, played by and for morons. Be careful with that assertion. White supremacists where largely told to gently caress off by the punk scene, so they instead started targetting the Skinhead scene instead. And Skinhead was basically a UK appropriation of Jamaican Rudeboy culture and music with a local working-class-lads twist. As to why they decided that they wanted to be "Skinheads" and then just to be confusing, skinheads who listened to a bastardised version of street-punk instead of Reggae and ska, whilst racing around being racists instead of jamaicaphiles as was tradition with the skinhead scene is anyones guess. There was never much of an affinity between punk and racism. Couple of earlier punk bands stupidly wore swastikas until the NF started turning up to gigs and the gluesniffers decided the nazi poo poo was probably a bad idea. But other than that its always been firmly taboo in that scene. Skinhead however, yeah , as loving strange as it was for a historical perspective, I guess the nazis just liked the violence in the scene and decided to appropriate that and the shaved heads whilst carefuly airbrushing out the skinhead movements roots in black culture. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70AEFoThgw4 duck monster fucked around with this message at 02:11 on Mar 4, 2014 |

When invited to perform at the White House for the first time in 1970, Richard Nixon's office requested that he play "Okie from Muskogee" (a satirical Merle Haggard song about people who despised youthful drug users and war protesters) and "Welfare Cadillac" (a Guy Drake song which denies the integrity of welfare recipients). Cash declined to play either and instead selected other songs, including "The Ballad of Ira Hayes" (about a brave Native American World War II veteran who was mistreated upon his return to Arizona), and his own compositions, "What Is Truth" and "Man in Black". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXRmJyIyJbM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIt5v_3P_XA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0KQWTBljjg and some extra https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRLc2O1xtYk Sheng-Ji Yang fucked around with this message at 13:11 on Mar 5, 2014 |

"Why Can't We Be Friends?" is a song by the band War. The song has a simple structure, with the phrase "Why can't we be friends?" being sung four times after each two-line verse amounting to over forty times in under four minutes. It was played in space when NASA beamed it to the linking of Soviet cosmonauts and U.S. astronauts in 1975 for the Apollo–Soyuz Test Project. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRGd0gD0QNE OwlBot 2000 fucked around with this message at 05:55 on Mar 9, 2014 |

Tom Clay - What the World Needs Now Is Love/Abraham, Martin and John (1971) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y36L2EIYlMQ The part with Ted's eulogy for his brother Bobby Kennedy is particularly emotional: quote:Like it or not, we live in times of danger and uncertainty. That is the way he lived, that is what he leaves us. My brother need not be idealized, or enlarged in death beyond what he was in life. Be remembered simply as a good and decent man, who saw wrong and tried to right it, saw suffering and tried to heal it, saw war and tried to stop it.

How about some Agit Prop. I listened to this poo poo all the time as a kid. I mean I listened to other stuff as well but these are hell of catchy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RO2kKqyK5o Translation mine because I don't know where the text is from. I didn't know whether or not to put "a" in front of party but I think it's more this way so there. Even the most important words are worn by use Washed out like our suits But I want to raise into the greatest glory The most noble of words: Party! Alone not even a man of note Could raise a five-span log Not to mention a five-story house, five-story house. Party! Party - millions of shoulders Firmly joined as a huge force Party - with co-operation builds Its structures cloud-high! Party! Party - spine of the working class! Party - unfailing support of the poor! Party gives our ideals immortality Today serving; Tomorrow the empires of robber barons Wiping off the map The empires of robber barons Wiping off the map Brains of the class, cause of the class Strength of the class, honour of the class Brains of the class, cause of the class Strength, honour of the class The party is all of that! Brains of the class, cause of the class Strength of the class, honour of the class Brains of the class, cause of the class Strength, honour of the class The party is all of that! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBU5OwPCczc This one is Brecht's Lob des Lernens so I won't provide a translation here. According to the Youtube blurb this isn't the original composition by Hanns Eisler but a newer one by Eero Ojanen. e: Eh I guess I'll throw in Tapio Rautavaara's rendition of Ontuva Eriksson (Limping Eriksson) which isn't exactly political but ham-fisted social commentary* is pretty D&D, right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpjESEykWe8 Bad translation mine again. Limping Eriksson is dead and many are pleased. He won't be shambling to park gates to beg anymore. Though many are escorted down into the peace of the graveyard with tears, no-one cried for you... Or did they, Eriksson? And now he has left his parks, he has arrived in heaven. Not quite inside, but at the gate, he remains with his hat. Get a little bit closer to the gates, so you'll see what has been promised. You can hope to be part of it yourself... Or could [sic] you, Eriksson? Such a celebration has he never seen on earth. And wonder - the pauper is now being handed alms. Now they're showing in front of the creator how good the devout are. And fill your hat with advice... Is that enough, Eriksson? Finally night fell in heaven and the gates were being closed. Right in front of a limping man, and the key was turned. You already experienced this on earth. It has been your lot. And your lot is also to remain quiet... Or is it, Eriksson? The man limps quietly behind the wall and seeks safety in his coat. At least it won't rain tonight and there are no police around. It's probably best for you to be behind the gates of heaven. The music of the harps would be too much... Or would it, Eriksson? *) Or possibly just a straight-up morality play. 3D Megadoodoo fucked around with this message at 00:39 on Apr 13, 2014 |
