Hello friends and comrades, I have decided that it would be really fabulously fantastic if the Debate & Discussion forum had a music thread where people can post their favorite political and D&D-esque music! I really love the D&D pictures thread and I am hopeful that this could be a similarly fun and entertaining thread with a relatively relaxed and casual posting atmosphere. Moderators and Administrators, I hope you will be okay with this thread! I think there is a lot of really fantastic political music out there and I am interested in learning about other posters' favorite political songs! So I strongly encourage everyone who posts in this thread to put some D&D-related music in their post!

I decided to kick this thread off by making a video of myself singing the English language version of the USSR anthem and uploading it to youtube! This version of the Soviet anthem was originally sung by Paul Robeson, and I hope you enjoy my amateurish a cappella rendition of this tubular tune! Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji3QcgybUYY

I'm looking forward to hearing other posters' favorite political music and I may post more music too if this thread catches on!

Edit: I guess I'll post the lyrics to the English version of the USSR anthem, just like some other posters have been posting the lyrics to the amazingly awesome songs they're posting! In my a cappella rendition of the song, I replaced the word "men" with the gender-neutral term "folks." So I'll do that in the lyrics I post too. Here are the lyrics:

United forever in friendship and labor,
Our mighty Republics will ever endure.
The great Soviet Union will live through the ages.
The dream of a people their fortress secure.

CHORUS
Long live our Soviet motherland, built by the people's mighty hand.
Long live our people, united and free.
Strong in our friendship tried by fire. Long may our crimson flag inspire,
Shining in glory for all folks to see.

Through days dark and stormy where great Lenin lead us
Our eyes saw the bright Sun of freedom above
and Stalin our leader with faith in the people,
Inspired us to build up the land that we love.

CHORUS

We fought for the future, destroyed the invader,
and brought to our homeland the laurels of fame.
Our glory will live in the memory of nations
and all generations will honor her name.

CHORUS

Thanks, Wikipedia! And thanks to all of you maximally mondo posters who have posted some spectacularly splendid music in this thread!

Hi friends, thanks so much for all of your fabulously fantastic posts! It's so cool to have a thread dedicated to political music and I really appreciate all of your efforts to share some of your favorite political and D&D-esque tunes!

I decided to make another video of myself singing one of my favorite political songs! This time I've made a video of myself singing "Hasta Siempre, Comandante" by Carlos Puebla. This is a famous and fantastic musical tribute to a great revolutionary hero, and I made a video of myself singing this song while staring lovingly at a finger puppet of Che Guevara so that I could pretend to be singing directly to Che Guevara himself! This is another a cappella rendition and I've uploaded the video to youtube. Be sure to watch the whole thing so that you can hear me say "oops" at the end! Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dz9k80KX_0s

And here are the lyrics, thanks to Wikipedia:

Aprendimos a quererte
desde la histórica altura
donde el Sol de tu bravura
le puso cerco a la muerte.

Chorus:
Aquķ se queda la clara,
la entrańable transparencia,
de tu querida presencia,
Comandante Che Guevara.

Tu mano gloriosa y fuerte
sobre la Historia dispara
cuando todo Santa Clara
se despierta para verte.

[Chorus]

Vienes quemando la brisa
con soles de primavera
para plantar la bandera
con la luz de tu sonrisa.

[Chorus]

Tu amor revolucionario
te conduce a nueva empresa
donde esperan la firmeza
de tu brazo libertario.

[Chorus]

Seguiremos adelante,
como junto a tķ seguimos,
y con Fidel te decimos :
«”Hasta siempre, Comandante!»

Hi alice_practice! I'm extremely flattered and think it's super amazingly cool and awesome that your first ever post on these forums has been in the D&D Music Thread!

Your post has inspired me to make a video of myself singing "Drunk Sincerity", from the underrated 1996 Bad Religion album titled The Gray Race.

I think "Drunk Sincerity" is very catchy and has some fabulous lyrics that seem to be psychological and sociological and political all at once! Here is the video of myself singing this splendiferously superb song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ln7Qy08hD3E

And here are the lyrics:

The smell of virgin pages wafted through the swinging doors
And the croaking speech he'd heard from countless counselors before
They said "We all care for you, we know how you suffer
But I know you can succeed, I used to have it so much rougher"

There's hope in the words and emotion in the eyes
It's so easy to be misled by the savvy gentle guise
And like fools we trust the delivery
But it's all just drunk sincerity

In maternal family assembly poised regarding the blue tube
The numbers crept up higher and the hawks stayed out of view
Then the generals said "We don't want our boys dead
Your sons and your husbands will be coming back heroes soon"

There's hope in the words and emotion in the eyes
It's so easy to be misled by the savvy gentle guise
And like fools we trust the delivery
But it's all just drunk sincerity

With steam, heat, and rhythm in the back seat of the car
And adolescent perspective projecting life's forecast to the stars
You heard love from the lips and you were rapt by the hips
And the promise was eternal but you couldn't see that far

There's hope in the words and emotion in the eyes
It's so easy to be misled by the savvy gentle guise
And like fools we trust the delivery
But it's all just drunk sincerity

Hi friends! Many thanks to everyone who has posted in the D&D Music Thread! I really dig a lot of the songs that have been posted, and I decided to make another contribution to this thread by recording myself performing a hip-hop rap song about the Democratic People's Republic of Korea by artist and aspiring revolutionary Marcel Cartier! The title of the song is "Bomb Threat." I first learned about Marcel Cartier when he was interviewed by George Galloway on the Sputnik show on RT, and I have since become a big fan of his music. I think it's fitting to highlight this song about the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on Martin Luther King Day because the DPRK has a history of expressing its solidarity with the oppressed Black population of the U.S. in general and the Black Panthers in particular.

Anyway, here's the recording of myself performing "Bomb Threat" by Marcel Cartier:

And here are the lyrics:

I'm turning on the news and I'm seeing all this bullshit
Conservatives and liberals are yappin' all that useless
even most you leftists are spewing your excuses
talkin' all that noise, "North Korea acting ruthless"
Imagining scenarios, "oh, they gonna nuke us!"
the truth is, you got no context to your rumors
backward positioning of who is the aggressor
who is on whose border with an arsenal of weapons
who controls the military of the country next to it
who is self-defending, who is acting negligent
they like to paint the north as a kingdom, prison camp
that is quite ironic when the number one prison land
is really my own country, the U.S. imprisons more
than any other country in world history before
and that you can't deny, but still I'm sure you'll try it
reality is simple, Washington is the real tyrant

Chorus (X2)
Korean conflict, yeah there's a bomb threat
you got the sides wrong though, look how it started
look at the facts, who's suffered the hardest
three to four million who dearly departed

Verse 2
You think the Democratic People's Republic of Korea
is utterly paranoid, they got a type of fever
like they got a natural liking for weapons
this when we need history to simply step in
we know Korean launched a war against Japan
to thrust off colonial rule from its land
but with the Japanese now defeated, who is next?
The U.S. and Britain now stepping in the trench
the Chinese and Soviets came to the defence
of the liberation forces who knew by common sense
that western imperial powers chase their interests
never there for genuine purposes or missions
the independence forces were led by Kim Il Sung
the Workers' Party and the people became one
they saw this leadership as restoring their dignity
still you love to talk about "they brought in the tyranny"

Verse 3
The U.S. dropped more bombs north of DMZ
than were used in all of World War 2 collectively
every single building in Pyongyang was leveled
think of that when they say "the north has gone mental!"
a fascist government was established in the south
the U.S. military still positioned throughout
they simulate yearly the bombing of the north
you know in D.C., they can't wait to pop the cork
and hence the reason why, they need to demonize
it seems to work so well even leftists on their side
wanna a world without nukes, yeah for sure
but the U.S. got 5,000 or maybe more
Korea got a right to have them as long as we do
no time for double standards, this "gotta play by our rules"
I got more in common with the people of Korea
than I do with my own government, drat right -- believe it

And here's a youtube link to the original Marcel Cartier version of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBfeP_g0H90

Please check out more of Marcel Cartier's music, and thanks again to everyone who has helped to keep the D&D Music Thread alive!

Hi friends! I've recorded myself singing a country-style version of the Italian communist song titled "Bandiera Rossa!" Check out this video of myself wearing a cowboy hat and singing a country-style version of Bandiera Rossa: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLAj8GyD8Dk

And here are the lyrics to Bandiera Rossa, as song by myself in the video that I linked to in this post:

Avanti o popolo, alla riscossa
Bandiera rossa, bandiera rossa
Avanti o popolo, alla riscossa
Bandiera rossa trionferą.

Bandiera rossa la trionferą
Bandiera rossa la trionferą
Bandiera rossa la trionferą
Evviva il socialismo e la libertą!

Degli sfruttati l'immensa schiera
La pura innalzi, rossa bandiera
O proletari, alla riscossa
Bandiera rossa trionferą.

Bandiera rossa la trionferą
Bandiera rossa la trionferą
Bandiera rossa la trionferą
Evviva il comunismo e la libertą!

Dai campi al mare, alla miniera
All'officina, chi soffre e spera
Sia pronto č l'ora della riscossa
Bandiera rossa trionferą.

Bandiera rossa la trionferą
Bandiera rossa la trionferą
Bandiera rossa la trionferą
Evviva il comunismo e la libertą!

Non pił nemici, non pił frontiere
Sono i confini rosse bandiere
O socialisti, alla riscossa
Bandiera rossa trionferą.

Bandiera rossa la trionferą
Bandiera rossa la trionferą
Bandiera rossa la trionferą
Evviva il comunismo e la libertą!

Thanks to Marxists dot org for the lyrics to Bandiera Rossa! And many thanks to everyone who has contributed to the Debate & Discussion Music Thread!

Hi friends, thanks again to everyone who has posted in the Debate and Discussion Music Thread! I have made a video of myself singing a cover of a new song by David Rovics titled "Apocalypse (There Won't Be Any Zombies)". I'm a huge fan of David Rovics and this new song he has written. Here is the video of myself singing David Rovics's "Apocalypse" song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6_I6yT6AX4

And here are the lyrics:

Apocalypse (There Won't be Any Zombies) by David Rovics posted:

Wars raging across the seven seas
Millions and millions of refugees
Millions dead or living in tents
Or crowding into cities being sucked dry for the rent
Thousands sinking to the ocean floor
Or dying in the desert escaping civil wars
Fascists attacking centers for asylum
Dying if they stay, dying if they come

Rains stopped falling, drought is the new norm
Aquifers depleted, dust rising in a storm
Hottest year ever, again and again
Millions of acres on fire, taking lives of firemen
Towns evacuated, houses burning
Here and everywhere, wind speeds rising
Turning the air into a smoky haze
When you wake up these days

There won't be any zombies in the actual apocalypse
And it's gonna look a lot like this

Ice caps melting, north and south
Pesticides flowing into the river mouth
Last of the oil being drilled
The last frontiers being killed
Food prices rising high
If you're rich you pay, if you're poor you die
And the dead just die, and then stay dead
Whether you starve or get a stake through your head

Chorus

Wealth gap stratifying
Whole ecosystems killed and dying
Politicians on TV sets
Looking just like marionettes
Drowning in debt, swimming in treasure
Desperate times, desperate measures
Raising alarms, building walls
United we kneel, divided we fall

Chorus

And here is the original video of David Rovics performing this new song with his groovy guitar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCqa8q1As-Q

I hope I'll be able to keep spending the Apocalypse and also spend the last days of my life lurking and/or posting on these here Something Awful Forums! Thanks again to everyone for keeping the Debate & Discussion Music Thread alive!

So I think "Les Brigandes" is a right-wing French band. And I think their song called "cannabisation nationale" is promoting the idea that the campaign to legalize weed is part of a Jewish conspiracy to make non-Jews more docile and easier to control. But I'm not sure because I don't know French! It is a catchy song, though.

Yeah they have some very interesting songs and music videos. The music video for their song titled "Le rat jeze" features a giant rat dancing around while wearing various costumes. Then the rat gets burnt at the stake at the end of the video. I think the message of the song is that Pope Francis and all of the Jesuits should be burned at the stake because the Jesuits are involved in a New World Order conspiracy, and perhaps the replacement of Pope Benedict XVI with Pope Francis was part of this conspiracy. But I don't really know what the song is about because I don't understand French!
