Anybody besides me remember an unknown folk singer back in the 80s-90s, think his name might have even been something like Robert Johnson, drove around to coffee houses around the country in his pickup playing his songs? I can only remember a scrap or two of them but I felt they were pretty powerful. I lost his cassette in a move years ago, it seems. Bottom line Midnight fires are burning, Poison faucets flow. Workers dying slowly of what they don't know. Give me something for my money, Something I don't need. Throw in a little planned obsolescence, For this, it's guaranteed. Laissez faire isn't your responsibility. Is that mission on which you're hellbent Your sole morality? Your bottom line? ... and I can't remember the rest. I can't find him anywhere. Also did one called "One of ours" and all I can remember off the top of my head is the chorus: It's one of ours. It's one of ours. Keeps us clothed and fed, And a roof above our head. Something that big Belongs to a superpower. Don't be afraid, It's one of ours. Another thing I remember about him is he had a cat that he took around the country in his truck. It had had it's back broken, and couldn't walk.

More Bad Religion: "American Jesus" I don't need to be a global citizen 'cause I'm blessed by nationality I'm a member of a growing populace We enforce our popularity There are things that seem to pull us under And there are things that drag us down But there's a power and a vital presence That's lurking all around We've got the American Jesus See him on the interstate We've got the American Jesus He helped build the president's estate I feel sorry for the earth's population 'Cause so few live in the USA At least the foreigners can copy our morality They can visit but they cannot stay Only precious few can garner the prosperity It makes us walk with renewed confidence We've got a place to go when we die And the architect resides right here We've got the American Jesus Bolstering national faith We've got the American Jesus Overwhelming millions every day He's the farmer's barren fields The force the army wields The expression on the faces of the starving millions The power of the man He's the fuel that drives the Klan He's the motive and conscience of the murderer He's the preacher on TV The false sincerity The form letter that's written by the big computers The nuclear bombs The kids with no moms And I'm fearful that he's inside me Yeah, we've got the American Jesus See him on the interstate We've got the American Jesus Exercising his authority We've got the American Jesus Bolstering national faith We've got the American Jesus Overwhelming millions every day One nation Under God (Repeat and rinse)
