Yamaha CS80, Roland Jupiter 8, and the Roland TRS-808

these were the sounds of most every synth band in the 80's. and it owned.

Hey 5-HT, you posting that retrowave/synthwave stuff in the 80s thread a month ago turned me into a total retro wave junkie. I listen to that poo poo now every day, so thank you. Also do you have playlists/DJ sets or whatever

Tbh, I was always kinda not down with the whole New Retro/eighties label. It's pretty hard to categorize this music and press it into fitting drawers. I just call it Synthie music and have a cool day :respek:

I think you can sense that Retrowave was written by a generation that has Techno & Electronic Music of the 90s and 00s in its DNA. The bass and the drums are harder, there's more stoicism and cynicism present. I think. OTOH it's spooky watching that Linea Aspera vid, it feels like Siouxsie Sioux and the Banshees 2.0.

I want to like Electric Youth, maybe if she sings with a bit more passion. Put a bit more oomph into the passages that are not supposed to sound sultry. Right now I get bored before the song ends.

I am LOVING his album to death and that video is the best I have seen in 2014.

Thanks, got any more similar spacewave?

Nah, I just stumbled over it while going through LuigiDonatello's playlists

Yeah, I get the sense that they are still finding their sound because they've only released a few mixtapes and ep's, but I think they've got potential to be something unique.

Their first full length album comes out this year and I'm hoping it will be a little more cohesive. The single they've released definitely seems more polished and produced than some of their previous stuff.

Ah cool I'll keep an eye out.

A couple of vocal tracks I like

This feels like the soundtrack to a french teenie rom-com that never existed

Reverse GIS'ing a picture used in one of Luigi Donatello's video led me to David Mattingly, don't know if he's famous. But his art is really great when it comes to conveying 80s sci-fi disco dystopia.

Ritual by GosT is probably one of my favourite tracks this year. Beware of his albums though, the distortion can get brutal spread across several tracks.

Edit: Is one of you guys julia robots on bandcamp? I fuckin love that vaporwave playlist.

OK, finished listening. No lying, Division Ruine gave me goosebumps. Anarchy Road is really nice as the first vocal track, more or less. As someone said on Bandcamp, it's a great finisher for a great trilogy. Buy it.

Division Ruine is so insanely good and Paradise Warfare too. I like all of EP III pretty good but I think Invasion AD is my least favorite. Paradise Warfare was daring me to skip it in the intro but it turns into something loving magical.

Yeah Paradise Warfare sounds like a rehash of "Looking for Tracy Tzu" at first, then goes somewhere else. I just hope the guy who created the "Le Perv" video does some more of his magic, that was my fav music video of last year. BTW anyone posted the link to Anarchy Road yet?

There needs to be more of this. I would also play the poo poo out of a dystopic Zelda.

Dude, Retrowave/Synthwave and Vaporwave is a loving rabbit hole. Go get a Bandcamp account and search by tag, you'll get hundreds of artists, compilations, etc., finding the good stuff is half the fun.

Season 2 is considerably weirder than season 1 so far.

Also having apple music makes finding this stuff way easier than pandora. Pandora has Kavinsky and that's about it.

You really need Bandcamp for this sort of stuff. The ability to follow fans makes it fun to explore also.

First time I hear about Maniac Synth, I just went down the bandcamp rabbit hole for my music needs. Still listening to Gost's Behemoth, don't think there's been a new "big" album released in the past months.

e: yeah that betamaxx album is p good
