So, if I'm reading this right. Her reflexes are so amazing she can toss an ice cream cone through an open car window to hit the driver as he's speeding past? I love this comic.

As she's speeding past; that's the general manager.

Mandrake the Magician (1941-11-30)

No one else mentioned it, but I have to say, that scrolling by without reading, this stood out as being the WEIRDEST out-of-context series of panels I've ever seen in this thread. So I went back and read it, and it didn't help one bit! Wow, old Mandrake was unique.

And introducing Outland

See, I'd read most of Bloom County in collections that my parents own, but I've never seen any of Outland. I've been looking forward to this.

So on the topic of Outland. Is there actually any story arcs in it, or is each strip a Sunday-sized one-off full of non sequiturs and bizarre imagery? Because I'm not enjoying it nearly as much as I did Bloom County.

Ballard Street

drat, Roy, those jeans are riding up like there's a shootout at sundown your rear end is a box canyon.

Thanks, colorist. Those are suppose to be chaps over his jeans, but even then yeah, they're really tight. But then I doubt it's easy to find properly fitting clothes when you're shaped like a Ballard Street man.

I love Pros and Cons so much.

I also miss Everett True, but I guess the last time it was posted we were heading into the World War 1 propaganda era. That's a bummer.

One of the things I enjoy about Everett True is the little slices of culture that are just so strange to modern viewers. Like, multiple strips show that True goes into a restaurant and sits down at a table with complete strangers just because that's the open seat. (Then he beats them up for one reason or another.)

So this is how Popeye made his vast fortune in the current era, right? He took all the money and left his rear end in a top hat employer to get worked over by violent bankers and casino managers?

That second-to-last panel is about the first time I've ever seen Devil look like a wolf instead of a nondescript dog breed, too. They usually don't go in for detailed drawings of him.
