I'm wondering how effective a design would be that would basically just be a wall on one side of the blueprint, and you'd place said building in a way to make invading your city a pain in the rear end. Probably not though.

I'm guessing he probably just hit a lot of walls that a singular dev couldn't overcome (MMOs are hard as poo poo to develop), and just figured it would cost too much money to get outside help.
