Yeah that's a big problem, the show hinges on the audience caring about the characters getting imperiled but they are all so uninteresting nobody cares.

Show: Oh no Skye is dying! Care about this! Care about this annoying character! Do it!"

I'm pretty sure the Superman stuff was on purpose and not just because he was too powerful. It was supposed to be because of the events of his series finale he was still kind of messed up emotionally and not fighting at his best. Shouldn't that also be a physically? Dude got blown up with a kryptonite nuke and had Darksied stomp a mud hole in his rear end until he got a lucky shot in.

B:TAS also existed at the tail end of actually being able to sell advertisers on cartoons. As I've brought up before advertisers were willing to fork out decent cash to get at that limited window that was saturday morning/weekday afternoons but after multiple studies showed how far cable had reached and how many homes had at least one tv dedicated to kids watching the growing number of kid centric channels the amount advertisers were willing to pay dropped to the point where you can't afford to produce an animated show on ads much less make money on one.

I hope more companies go this route. I understand the losses their taking by effectively making their CBR files stupidly available to people who'd pirate them but honestly it encourages me to want to buy books direct from them over ComiXology, which I believe is just a license to read the books I've paid for.

I doubt we'll see that with Marvel or DC because of their parent companies stances on piracy being the end of the world.

I agree with you though. I think Disney is quite happy with what they got already have movie making gangbusters so I doubt they will shell out for more at this point in time.

Thing is they get name recognition and they don't have to pay for it. Disney will only think about buying out Fox and Sony's contracts when they think the movies are damaging their other properties. Despite not having a shared universe every Spider-Man and X-Men movie is still creating Marvel buzz so it'll take some real flops critical and finical for Disney to give up what is basically risk free advertising.

There's no maybe about it. The whole book is about two good people who want to do good in the world, in their own ways, being thrust into a world of filth and perversion and hate and horrible assholes and coming out on the other side as still good people. It just so happens that the filth is also why modern comics are bullshit, according to Ennis (and also in line with his views on heroes in general). There's nothing in that book that doesn't serve a purpose.

Except for MM's mother. That was just a gross titty monster.

Ennis views on heroes is "Stop making GBS threads up comic books with superheroes I want to write spies, soldiers and cowboys!" and that's it.

That's not even close to being right though. Dude absolutely adores Superman, he just dislikes what superheroes have become in the last twentyish years. If "I hate superheroes" is all you take from Ennis' books you should probably read them again, he's hellbent on exploring what makes someone a hero and the absolute pinnacle of it to him is loving Superman.

Edit make that thirty years actually

B) This is an amazing argument that is in no way shortsighted or fails to take into account the fact that the vast majority of Ennis's work deals with the definition of being a good person slash a hero, which boils down to "Doing the right thing because it's the right thing to do" which let's face it is Superman as gently caress. Also, seriously, that was just a "nuh uh" response please come correct next time don't do this half-assed "Nah I don't even want to think about it because I'm right" poo poo.

Your biggest proof that Ennis loves Superman is that he writes to possibly the single most accepted definition of the heroic ideal in nearly every medium and genre in recorded history. Just because he writes generic heroes doesn't mean he likes a particular generic hero in a medium that he works with.

A shrinky tech Q where he avoids the stressors that have caused multiple mental breakdowns would be a great fit for Pym but will never stick because nostalgia demands the old Antman be Antman forever and ever instead of getting out of the superhero biz like he should from a character perspective.
