There is a new thread rule, which is to bring it up to date with the rest of the Book Barn. Do not just post a list of the books you read this month, you will be probated. Say what you liked/disliked/your favorite Rocket Racoon quote It's never too late to join in. Make a post with your goal and reach it by December. Congratulations to everyone who reached their goals in 2013. Have a list! We make reading goals, then keep track of the books we read. Not much to it. Here's my Goodreads, feel free to post yours! They have a great tool to help you keep track of what you're reading, too. MOD EDIT: Good luck to everyone on your challenges! Just a reminder that the forum rule against posting only book titles with no other explanation or discussion applies in this thread also. If you're posting book titles, post something about why you want to read them or what you thought of them. AreYouStillThere fucked around with this message at 22:41 on Mar 9, 2014 |

Decided I'm not going to be posting people's goals this year, it was a lot of extra work and I don't think anyone really cared. For myself, my goal is the same as last year - 75 books. I'm starting a REAL JOB this month so this might be difficult for me. AreYouStillThere fucked around with this message at 21:39 on Feb 1, 2014 |

Dienes posted:Can we get a consensus of how many books to count Worm as? Good question. I think I'm going to count it as 4, which would be about 1,100 pages per book. That's on par with Wheel of Time books anyway. Or Infinite Jest. My god what have I begun. (I'm like, 10 updates in. I got a waaaaays to go)

showbiz_liz posted:I wonder- for the people who did this last year, could you say what your favorite book of 2013 was? It would help me (and maybe others) to choose books for the 2014 lineup. Mine was probably Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing. The most gripping nonfiction book I've ever read, I think. I was on the edge of my seat the whole way through. If you take a look at the end of the 2013 thread, often times people will post their year end reading list and bold their 5 or 10 favorite titles. I always find those lists interesting to look at. My favorites were Generation Loss by Elizabeth Hand, If On a Winter's Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino, and Code Name Verity, which has a scene that still makes me tear up just thinking about it, by Elizabeth Wein. Also I should really read Endurance again, I remember loving it when I read it but it's been 10 or 15 years.

Hieronymous Alloy posted:Not trying to single you three out but these posts are just examples from the last page or so of something I wanted to bring up, remind everyone about, & see if we need to update or change. I think this is a good direction to go in. It's a lot more participatory as soon as someone starts posting their thoughts on books. I don't think it has to be too much even, but pointing out your favorite book in the batch you just posted would be great.

Real life got in the way and I haven't been around this thread much. I think someone else should make the thread for next year. I did finish my edited goal of 52. I lowered it after Worm took me like 3 months, but I highly recommend it if you have the time.
