Cucktales Blogger posted:I was listening to old Ron & Fez bits on youtube and heard Ron mention that he isn't/wasn't allowed to do live reads. What's the story with that? Marketing being dicks. You make up one company mascot and have him talk about being raped in the middle of a live read and they won't let you do any more live reads. They just don't get it.

Fez's loud fake/forced laugh is awful in every Unmasked. Especially since you know he doesn't understand or empathize with anything the guest is saying, it's all about prompting the audience. It's a live laugh-track.

Due to the fact I inadvertently followed a bunch of R&F hanger-ons when I first joined Twitter I just noticed Dave's wife is getting a lot of poo poo from a bunch of people that used to be her best friends. It seems she's been cheating on Dave for years (and bragging about it) with another R&F listener named Mikey Background - some drummer that has been on R&F a few times. And it looks like Casey is leaving Dave, which might explain Dave's vague, "this has been the worst week of my life" comment at the beginning of this week's DMSP podcast. Who would have thought that an on-air wedding to a listener wouldn't work out? Edit: this is one of the gayest posts in this thread I've ever made.

If you check out Silera's and Barb's Twitters you can see them turning on Casey. Casey has even taken over Dave's twitter account a few times to respond to people as him defending her, then made him pose for this pic with the date written on it to show that they are still together. * Silera is a long time friend of the show (back to WNEW) who's husband IrishAlky died, and Barb was one of Casey's best friends whose fiance died from cancer. I stopped listening to O&A about a year ago and I'm better off for it. R&F got pretty bad there for a while but now I want to see what is coming next. We'll know something Monday I guess. Or not. You never can tell with Fez.

Just a heads up for Ron & Fez listeners: Californication is about to start up again. In an era of The Wire, Mad Men, and Game of Thrones (Shows that Ron dismisses) we'll get to hear Ron talk about his favorite dogshit Showtime sitcom, preaching to us about how cool it is to be a writer and that's what makes that show great. Hey Ron, if you revere good writing so much how about watching Mad Men or even *gasp* Game of Thrones for great dialogue by capable writers instead of David Duchovny plodding through lovely storyline after lovely storyline. As knowledgeable as Ron can be about some things, sometimes his 90s, Tampa, shock-jock, suit-jacket-sleeves-rolled-up roots really show. Sorry that's a huge pet peeve of mine. That, and the fact that Ron can't say "drawing" without pronouncing it "drawling", but yeah Fez is the one that mispronounces stuff. How about calling it pissketti and meatballs too. The best Otto & George story: Years ago Otto and George were performing in a park (maybe Washington Square park?), the crowd was pretty rough, and George was doing crowd work. In a play on the old NRA talking-point George said, "Guns don't kill people, Puerto Ricans kill people" at which point a Puerto Rican gentlemen produced a knife, rushed forward and stabbed George.... the puppet. That's when George - without skipping a beat - yelled, "This spic stabbed me!" Otto stayed in character the whole time. JFC fucked around with this message at 00:26 on Apr 15, 2014 |

Paul Kersey posted:To be fair, 99% of the time it is Ron who brings up Fez's issues in front of the comedians. "Tell a joke or be a joke." When Fez stopped being funny he started being the punchline. He'll continue to be the punchline for however long he stays with the show. This won't change. Ron saw the damage it was doing to him and tried to make a change but Fez insisted on staying. The company is partly to blame now for allowing contract extensions instead of changing up the show like Ron wanted. I lost any empathy for Fez a long time ago.

Yeah, Jimmy is not as good at stand-up as he is on the show just riffing. He's so focused on current events and news items that all his material gets very dated within a year. He sucks at coming up with a deep premise to explore, probably because his sex addiction has him too preoccupied to deal with any introspection beyond "I'm a horrible piece of poo poo." Bill Burr, Louis CK, and even Patrice have material that isn't dated because they take something we are all dealing with (anger, frustration, kids, racism, men, women, etc) and look at it from a new perspective. Norton's humor focuses on "I hope <insert target> slips in a puddle of AIDS" and "I'm such a depraved piece of poo poo, let me tell you the awful things I do." Norton is a headliner because of O&A, but his opening acts are usually funnier than him on the road.

Ron Bennington is precious and schizophrenic about 9/11. He can't stand the memorial/museum, He thinks it is in bad taste for Molly to go there, he calls action movies with buildings being damaged "9/11 porn", and thinks New Yorkers have had enough tragedy related to it.... Yet every September 11th Ron & Fez do a show where that's all they talk about. They tell the stories about on air that day, Billy Staples sneaking into the city, Ron having to go find his kids, about all the friends of the show that came out of those downtown pub crawls they did for the local bars afterwards, and then close the show with Walk On by U2. The same show, every year, like its some kind of... whats the word I'm looking for... memorial, or something.

I was just pointing out how I've found it odd over the years how Ron tends to poo poo on memorials and museums dedicated to tragedies but then does the same 9/11 show every year because he can since he's a New Yorker. People that go to holocaust museums and memorials are ghoulish but he'll do the same requiem mass of a show yearly. There's a disconnect there is all I'm saying. I'm staying out of the 50 year old hipster argument.

The best part about the gawker comments are the O&A listeners posting Vos and Jim's club dates for the week. "Rich Vos is appearing at The Comic Strip July 4th and 5th." and "tss she shoulda sedd im not black im brown u stupid cawksuckaa! tss" "Fawkin home run Chippahson!!" and "Hold on, hold on, hold on! The phones are lit, but I can't pick any of them up. Mars, what the gently caress is this loving poo poo? Anyway, this reminds me of one time when I was caddy in for some photographer. His name was um, uh, it was, ah gently caress I can't loving remember. But this guy was trying to take pictures of some broad, and she was being a real just loving, um, uh, just like a bitch about it. She starts going all in on punching him and I was like HOLY gently caress so I grabbed a club and fought her off. He was so grateful that he gave me some money. Not alot, but the Opster got a good tassste. And of course I had to give go my family, cause I grew up poor. Sorry, Ant. I just remembered that. Here's Scott in Cleveland. -Gregg "Opie" Hughes."

He used to help his half-brother Lamar fix my mother's floorboards. Whoever wrote this article doesn't even know he's part black." "Paul Harghis • 7 minutes ago This is so dumb. Anyone who has seen the show knows Anthony is a half black man of Tunisian decent. This whole thing is being taken from the angle that he's a white old racist, when he's not even white." That goes back to Colin Quinn saying he looked like a "back-alley Tunisian knife-fighter" or a "Corsican pimp".

The best thing that could come from this is that Ant finally hits a bottom so low he'll get some actual help with his alcoholism. That could maybe lead to cleaning up some other areas of his life.

Once the hours and hours of racist clips and thousands of past tweets started showing up in the news/blog stories it was beyond that. This wasn't an isolated use of a word that can be apologized for, it was a past history of a belief in racist ideology and propagation of it.

I stopped listening to O&A in the winter of 2013 and gave it a shot again this week. Monday was interesting with the Anthony postmortem and Ron, Tuesday with Vos, Fat Bob, Gervais, and Pete Rose was outstanding, Wednesday with Colin was great, but by Thursday I was already sick of Opie's interrupting and Jim's equivocating about Ant's racism. I'm punching out again. At this point Jim is just enabling Ant's racism and addiction lifestyle when he could be using this to say, "Hey, you're a racist alcoholic and you need help. You lost your job because you can't control yourself." Instead he's rationalizing everything he's said on twitter and being his apologist. Those listeners that called DL Hughley a friend of the family on Twitter? That's Ant's base and the people that will follow him to his new show. I'm surprised Opie and Jimmy haven't gotten more callers that are overtly racist in their support of Ant.
