My brother and I have been fortunate enough to get passes for all four days whenever we've tried. Nevertheless, I wouldn't mind if they simply used a lotto system for tickets. Just keep the registration page open for a week and let luck decide who gets what.

Well, I *did* say that I wouldn't mind them switching to a lottery system, but... Why does it have to be so convoluted? When Masters tickets are made available, they give people MONTHS to throw their name into a hat, and then later on they email those who were lucky enough to be chosen to purchase tickets. Dr Tran posted:Okay good, I can be at a computer for this sale. quote:The badge inventory is being held for you while you enter your information. So when you get up to the point where you can select badges, it sounds like all the available badges you might be considering are "reserved" for you (and up to two others) at that time. That is, you won't start selecting badges, enter ID/billing information, and then find out one of them has sold out. Am I understanding that correctly? If so, it's at least nice to know that I don't have to feverishly enter in, copy/paste, or hope auto-fill puts in the right information. Then again, it's much less likely that this "race" component would be a make or break factor compared to last year, depending on how many people they let into badge selection at once. Also, here's the site outlining the same instruction: http://www.comic-con.org/cci/2014-cci-badge-preregistration

Tip: If they don't have all four badges available and you aren't interested in going without a 4-day, still buy a single badge (e.g. Sunday or Thursday) so you're eligible for badge holder pre-reg next year. Correct me if I'm wrong, though. I don't want people to waste money. quote:You need to show up to use your ticket for this statement to be accurate. Was able to get preview night at 9:40 (had the other days from earlier registration). They'll mention when days are getting low/out of stock, so don't quit Mr. Onslaught posted:I think 2011 was the year where a shitload of people spent Fri night of the con just camping out to be able to buy 2012 tickets Saturday morning. Our 350 dollar hotel went unused that night, and we basically spent half of our time at the con just waiting in line to be able to get into next year's con...presumably to repeat the process. Ugh, yeah, 2011 was the worst. Same experience.

milquetoast child posted:Last year a friend wanted some Skylanders thing and I figured I'd get up around 6am and grab it for them. I head over to where the line is to get a ticket which would later let me into a separate line to allow me to get a wristband that would let me get in line at a certain time to purchase the item. It's a good 1000 people long, wrapping around through the barricades. I asked a person about halfway through when they got there and they said 11pm the night before. The mind boggles. I feel like people spend more time waiting/camping in order to buy collectibles at MSRP, than they would spend working in order to afford a marked-up resale of the item on ebay. Same goes for those hoping to flip them for a profit: that 12 hours of waiting isn't going to amount to much on a per hour basis. Unless you're in it "for the experience" and derive satisfaction from the hunt, it just seems like a terribly stressful venture. All of this is old news of course. edit: It could also be that many people don't have rooms to stay in, and they just pick a line to "invest" in the night before when camping out. Someone mentioned that there's a trend of buying a 1-month gym membership in the nearby area in order to camp in lines overnight and then be able to take a shower/freshen up at will. Unfortunately, you can smell the campers who don't do this from a mile away XOIC of Radishes fucked around with this message at 20:26 on Mar 15, 2014 |

There are a lot of potentially "unfun" things you end up doing at Comic-con such as standing lines, and they are going to take up a majority of your time. If you aren't doing anything to make more of/the most of these situations, you're going to end up being pretty miserable at the end of the day. I've never attended a panel that was worth the stress and worry of wondering whether I was going to make it in or not. I'm not saying that you need to get all buddy-buddy with people next to you in line in order to discover the True Meaning of Comic-Con, but if you're always thinking about the next thing, you'll miss everything. Also, yeah, panels can mean different things for different people. I'm not that interested in the content of the television show/movie panels, but I love feeling the energy in the room when a big reveal happens. Otherwise I think my favorite panels are the ones that focus on "people" more than a particular subject. For example, Kevin Smith.

Jimmy James posted:I went to the Game of Thrones and Walking Dead panels last year, and I whole-heartedly regretted standing in line for it. Most actors are kind of boring people to listen to. The best ones for me last year were Matt Stone and Trey Parker with a "I Know That Voice" in front of it. I'm going to stick to comedic actors, voice actors, and industry professionals. It sounded like all of the adult swim panels were great last year just by virtue of how funny the people are who do them. And industry professionals seem to be more forthcoming and generally have more interesting things to say. I'd pick a panel with the creator/director/personal assistant of something rather than the star of something all day. I went to those panels as well, and I agree, they were great. Cartoon Voices and Quick Draw are also fun ones that my brother and I regularly like to attend. As for fan questions, I'm not sure what else they can do. I think the screeners are just there to determine whether a question is "appropriate" or not, and that's it. Of course, someone who is intentionally going to ask an inappropriate question is just going to give the screener a fake question instead (See: "Can I have a hug/autograph?" people). They don't let them determine what's good, bad, or repetitive because they may not be knowledgeable enough on the subject the panel is discussing to determine as much. Some of the more entertaining panelists will straight-up say "That's a dumb question go sit your rear end back down." That's always satisfying.

Finished at just before 9:01. All of that time spent alphabetizing my report and dissertation references paid off when it came to choosing hotels. Probably would have been quicker if I used my keyboard to punch in the letter to go to the right spot. Here's hoping for Marriott Marquis. edit: And yeah, autofill is wondrous. Filled out all of my personal information in one click. Already knew the other options like upgrading and such, so clicked on them without having to read.

1. SAN DIEGO MARRIOTT MARQUIS & MARINA 2. HILTON SAN DIEGO BAYFRONT 3. HARD ROCK HOTEL SAN DIEGO-STUDIO ROOM 4. OMNI SAN DIEGO HOTEL 5. MANCHESTER GRAND HYATT 6. HORTON GRAND HOTEL Brother switched the #1 and #2 spot, then picked 4 others in downtown. Stayed in Marriott once or twice, and Hilton a few. Only other hotel we've stayed in is on Coronado, which is great but lining of for the water taxi in the morning is a lame way to start the day.

Satorr posted:Cartoon Voices 2 was ridiculous. Mark Evanier said it would be the final time they'd use the Snow White script, so everyone on the panel went ham. Definitely went out with a bang. The Sesame Street panel before it was great as well. They showed an episode from the upcoming season of Sesame Street that rifts off of Comic-con (Elmo attends "Numeric-con," a convention celebrating numbers) as well as a short Star Wars parody starring Cookie Monster, and announced that they recently filmed an episode parodying Game of Thrones, House of Cards, and another show that escapes me at the moment. Really looking forward to how those turn out! edit: Also, the Sesame Street panel went a little over, and Mark Evanier stated that he simply couldn't tell Cookie Monster that their time was up.

I clicked "purchase for 1" reading it as "purchase for 1 (other person)," so I ended up with my own 4-day pass, but not my brother The system disallows you from hitting the back button to correct the number of badges you want to buy. I hosed up. I called EPIC. They were nice, but customer service said no dice as far as being able to squeeze him in due to my mistake. Sending a follow-up email to them and CCI, but not too hopeful. Any other ideas? Very upset with myself. XOIC of Radishes fucked around with this message at 19:10 on Nov 8, 2014 |

How does purchasing badges for others work in terms of email notification? E.g. If someone here were able to order a badge for my brother during open registration, would he be notified by exactly who ordered it? Due to my error, it looks like him and I both will need to participate in the open registration to help get him a 4-day (and maybe each get a chance at upgrading to preview night), so when the time comes I wouldn't mind being able to get into a goon network for it and offer any of my extra spaces for others (1-3 depending on what happens/what's available when we get to front of line). In fact, I'd be willing to offer a bounty on his getting a 4-day or our both getting 4-day+preview as well if that's kosher. That's why I ask if the person who gets the order through would have their name in a notifying email so I'd know who to send the extra money to (in addition to the cost of the badge, of course). Pretty much trying to pull out all the stops to make up for "my bad," but don't want to do anything that's against SA's rules, or doing something that might get me scammed. I know open registration is still pretty far away, but just wanted to check and see if this is an OK thing to do so I can relax a little bit.

During prereg, if you haven't gotten a badge for yourself and don't want one, can you still buy others their badges (up to 3)? Or are you required to buy a badge/already have a badge before helping others out? Still trying to plan around having friends help my brother get his badge. Thanks!

Thanks for the input. It is a bit of an odd situation to find oneself in (i.e. not buying a badge for oneself at checkout and only buying for others), so we'll see how it plays out. Also, I was looking through badge registration emails from earlier this year, and see where a receipt is sent to the person who successfully purchases badges for themselves/others with all confirmation numbers listed for each individual's badge order. Since this confirmation number is also sent to the actual badge holder, I would be able to work with others to help my brother get his badge (and maybe upgrade my own to preview night in the process) and confirm/reward the person able to do so. I'm thinking about matching whatever the purchase price ends up being (e.g. $220 to cover badge cost, and an additional $220 reward), so long as it's a 4-day w/ or w/o preview night (and including if I'm upgraded to preview night as well). Hopefully I can let this rest for a while now that it seems like a real possibility. Will post more later when registration is actually announced, as well as coordinating my own efforts to help others with their own badge purchases. Sorry to have used so much of this thread on this subject in the meantime.
