Interesting changes. Seems like it'll work fine, but as Jack Skeleton said, I don't really see people changing their habits of just purchasing all days to be safe because the schedule isn't known this far in advance (nor do I expect it to be).

Also, take note of this:quote:If you are eligible to participate in badge preregistration, please be aware that the Member ID system will be closing temporarily next week, and when it reopens you will not be able to make any changes to your account until after the preregistration sale is complete. This means that you must review and make changes (if needed) to your Membership Type, email, or other critical contact information prior to the Member ID system closing sometime the week of January 27, 2014. Today is the 27th, so if you need to adjust any info, hurry.

Questions from the audience at Comic-Con panels are always a train wreck waiting to happen. It's some of the best schadenfreude ever. People ask some really weird poo poo sometimes and you can feel the entire room squirming.

Space_Butler posted:I've never done parking before so I have no idea, but does that also include convention center parking (as coveted as it is, figured I'd give it a shot this year)? Yeah. Pretty much every major lot goes on sale at once. Convention Center and Hilton are the most expensive and also the most likely to sell out first. Convention Center parking is so glorious, so sweet.

Between the combined efforts of my carpool buddy and I, we secured Friday at the Hilton and the rest at Horton Plaza. We both got our barcodes printed and saved as documents, but only I got a confirmation email for the Horton Plaza days, he didn't get one for the Hilton day. Hopefully poo poo doesn't go sour for that one day. This was a pretty crummy experience. I don't recall every having issues like this before. Pretty amazing that they were able to make it worse.

I've been going every year since 2000, and attended a handful of times before then. It's really weird when I think back to what it used to be.

FilthyImp posted:At this point, the only hope is to split off the entertainment aspects of it (TV and Movies) and have a smaller comic-based con as a prelude. I went to Wondercon in 2011 or 2012 for part of one day. Basically felt like it was Comic-Con but 10-15 years ago, which was very nice. Felt relaxed and comfortable but still with a lot to see and do. Hopefully next year I'll be able to attend again

Interesting. Emailed them just now to see if I can switch my Horton Plaza parking passes to CC or Hilton, which were listed as totally sold out once I was finally able to get in and buy anything.

Wow. Big ups to ACE. They sent me a reply saying they had authorized my account to buy Hilton or CC parking once I processed refunds for my existing Horton Plaza parking. Did that in one button press per day, then bought convention center parking for the whole week. Amazingly painless. Thanks for posting that tweet, Dr. Tran.

I suddenly realized that there is most likely going to be a Rick and Morty panel at Comic-Con. I must attend it and I hope it is early in a day so I don't have to camp the room too long for it.

RevKrule posted:Just an FYI, this is up north of Miramar. So after you're done getting drunk you can pretend to be Maverick. Also, it's way the gently caress up there in north county. Be prepared for a bit of a drive. It's not in North County. It's only about 15 miles away from the convention center, and almost all freeway driving. As far as traffic goes, it should be smooth around the time it starts but any time after 2:30pm, traffic begins to ramp up all throughout the county and doesn't begin to die down (slowly) until around 7pm, so returning to downtown from Miramar could potentially take a long time.

In cities everywhere, these hangups occur almost every time a project like this is trying to get underway. It will eventually be smoothed out and the project will roll out.

Axel Serenity posted:I don't think it's a matter of the project actually starting so much as when it happens. CCI's contract is up in 2016, and if the Hall H line controversy this year was any indication, the convention is on a timer. People want it in San Diego by a landslide, but there's a point wherr you have to be realistic about the infrastructure and manpower available. This is the same thing people have been saying for at least a decade now. poo poo like Hall H and Ballroom 20 and Hasbro collectible chaos aren't the be all end all of the convention. That poo poo is gonna be ugly anywhere, anytime. There is so much more to the convention than the big box stuff that makes headlines. It may be very important but it's not even close to being everything. The convention, the city and the way they deal with each other have grown together. Moving it somewhere else would be a hilarious train wreck. Imagine this ridiculous event as it is right now just showing up in another city all of a sudden. Also, do you really think the city isn't going to do whatever it takes to keep it here? The amount of revenue the con brings is insane. To lose that would be borderline catastrophic. The con's contract may be "up" in 2016 but it has been renewing on a one or two year basis for as long as I can remember. It's business as usual.
