Most of my favorite episodes have been mentioned already, but I'll throw in two more.

I've always thought that "The Ghosts Who Stole Christmas" is a goddamn charming episode. I don't think it really falls into the "humorous" category, even though it has some funny moments. But the atmosphere is great and there's a lot of interesting discussion about Mulder and Scully's relationship.

I also really like "Quagmire" in the third season. I have a soft spot for both Mulder's Ahab speech and the plight of frogs and their ecosystems, I guess. Also, RIP Queequeg.

Or his porn collection. One of the best things about Mulder is that for all the charm and secret agent training, he can be a complete loving goon sometimes :allears:

One of my favorite gags is the scene in Jose Chung where Mulder is in bed, presumably watching porn, then the camera pans around and the screen is showing the Patterson Bigfoot film.

But I really like your analysis of their living spaces. One of the best things about the show was how much the writers left unsaid. You don't see that kind of subtlety on a lot of shows these days.

Also the girl in "Shadows" has a really goofy name. "LAUREN KYTE." They keep saying it, first and last name, over and over, too.

The writers had to come up with so many one-shot characters that it's not surprising some of the names got a little goofy. I also remember (from an interview or something) that the writer of Teso Dos Bichos gave one of the characters his mother's name. And then killed her off.

Come to think of it, is there a comprehensive list somewhere of all the minor characters from the X-Files? Now I'm curious.

I'm currently watching Deadwood, and I can't help but point out how many of these actors guest starred on the X-Files. Off the top of my head, there's Brad Dourif (Doc Cochran) who played Luther Boggs in 'Beyond the Sea', William Sanderson (E.B. Farnum) who played the guy from 'Blood', Jim Beaver (Whitney Ellsworth) who played the coroner in 'Field Trip', and Titus Welliver (Silas Adams) who played Doug Spinney in 'Darkness Falls'. Between The X-Files and Seinfeld, I think half the actors in Hollywood guest starred on those two shows.

Don't forget John Hawkes (Sol Star) in "Milagro." He was a great choice for the part -- another actor might have made the role cheesy, but he managed to make Padgett feel sincere. He also had a nice quiet, creepy vibe going.

That and Small Potatoes. Je Souhaite is a much better "light hearted" episode than either.

The Ghosts Who Stole Christmas is my favorite light-hearted ep that never seems to get any love. It's funny and a little creepy, plus there's some good commentary on the Mulder-Scully dynamic.

Yeah, I've never liked the Postmodern Prometheus, either, for all of the reasons mentioned above and also Cher.
