Also it ends with said kid still being alive coming out of the river after falling in after being shot in the head. Also Scully's pregnant but Gillian's not coming back and I 100% don't blame her

I just kind of assumed he got away because I never thought the show would just gloss over the death of one of its oldest and best characters. It's one of those things where if there was a decent chance of another episode of the show, he and CSM and everyone else would be back for some weird story reason and everything would go back to normal. As is, it's expected that's the last scene you'll ever get of that character
