For some reason people who work at carriers (that I've met) are really high strung, proud of their service, and worried about these sort of things. I wouldn't be surprised if this got Sprint to drop overages and probably ATT would shortly follow. I bet in a couple weeks TMobile starts a TV ad campaign calling the other carriers out for this.

The only way I've been able to get around is easytether plugged into USB. On current Android your phone tells the carrier it's tethering.
