I can't remember where I heard this but someone either told me or once said that you could go down to Austin during SXSW and not even have to attend the actual festival to get a good show. Well I'm not in position to purchase a pass to the festival, but I do have friends in Austin so should I go anyway? I've got some vacation to burn and just need a reason really.

I don't read blogs so I'm not familiar with which ones would be ideal to follow. Would Twitter be a good substitute to find out where acts are playing?
