So, in the spirit of Valentine's Day, I decided to play something I had spied before, in the search of girl games: Valentine Kiss.

As usual, it's a kissing game, where you have to click on a couple and make sure people don't see them kissing, because no one wants to see couples kissing on Valentine's day.

But what's this... there's two couples? And one of them is interracial?

So yes, you have to manage your clicks on both couples so they keep kissing, and the heart on the tree fills up with red. However, if you stop kissing, the heart loses red, so you've got to manage who is kissing at what time. Unfortunately, that grandmother has eyes like a hawk and has no "tell" for when she's going to look at you so it's very luck of the draw, and you'll be seeing the lose screen quite a lot.

Which yes, does have two dogs humping in the background, and yes, it is animated. I'll make a gif of it soon.

But the win screen is quite cool, if you manage to get there:

It's rather sweet!

Oh yeah, I forgot about the music. It has a sweet bass guitar track!

I held a whole lot of other harmful views that took me years to grow out of. Maybe it would be nice if there were Girl Games out there that countered things like that.

A lot of these girl games have the message of "You have to be someone you're not in order to get the guy" and that sucks. What I'd like to see happening more in girl games, and mainstream media in general, is telling people that it's okay to be themselves, and it's actually better for you - and yes, being yourself can be putting on dresses and makeup and such, but it can also be not doing that.

After all, relationships don't last out of pure attraction, you've got to like the person's personality - a lesson that a lot of these games don't teach.

It's funny since guys see the opposite message a lot, that life will eventually just reward them with a woman for existing, since the main character always "gets the girl in the end."

This is not exactly true. I'll probably go on a tangent about this but it needs to be addressed so...

Both genders have an appearance that is portrayed by the media as normal. For males it's tall, thin, muscular, white, either clean-shaven or stubble, whereas for a female it's tall, long-hair, white, thin, no body hair. This is generally what you'll see in movies, in advertisements, tv shows, etc. Magazines also have a reputation for attacking a celebrity for not fitting these roles. You'll find that in shows and movies, the people that get the laughs are typically not part of the normal look. Fat people, black people, nerds, goths... anyone that doesn't fit the norm is someone to be laughed at.

I've seen a lot of people who don't fit into these concepts of beauty think they are not attractive and can't get a relationship, which sucks. I've also see people that do fit into these roles think they should get relationships because they are "attractive". What these people don't realize is that relationships rely on a lot more than just attraction to succeed. And yes, there are people that don't fit these "attractive" roles and do think they should get relationships by just being "nice". I don't know what's wrong with them.

I disagree with this. There are men of all kinds of body types on TV. Fat men like Homer Simpsom and Peter Griffin are protagonists all the time. There are tons of movies about ugly men or fat men or otherwise quirky or undesirable men that are sympathetic characters that have heart deep down and end up getting the woman of their dreams.

None of this happens for fat women. They don't exist. Their very existence in media is an eyesore that evokes recoil and disgust from the audience.

Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin are "comedy fat", their weight is the source of comedy. You can also see it in the Cleveland show, where the main character is "comedy black". These roles are not something people aspire to.

Mike and Molly is a good example of a show that has a fat couple. The humour is mostly low-brow fat jokes. In fact, I think there was a full 9 minute bit where the punchline was "ham". They are not something to aspire to.

Even beat cops wear them. I often wonder what that does for chasing down criminals.

Although, obviously, there are still gender disparity and identity problems... Wherever you go, really. Just... Different ones, often.
I wasn't meaning you. I was meaning that some people wear Sulu without understanding the culture. Also, there's kinda been a fashionification of Fijian and other tribal wear, similar to what is happening in America with Native American clothing. It's degrading to the culture. Obviously you put a lot of thought into which Sulu you picked out, but there's people that don't care about it as much.

I agree with DeVac in saying that it's mostly the distributors fault. The least they could do is include a small little information tag with the garment and inform the people that buy them.

For example, I get a little bit annoyed when I see people with the Maori tattoos that signify royalty. The most common one used to be Princess, but there's been a lot of sudden popularity for the other three, especially Prince and King. But generally I think that they don't know what it means and they chose it because it looks cool, and no other reason. So it's the artist's fault for not informing them before they got it. If they knew what it meant before they got it, well that's another kettle of fish.

Princesses were pretty baller, though, I can see why you'd want to be one. Strong, Tough, always carried a weapon, had a lot of power...

Exactly, and it seems that for overweight people, being overweight is their defining feature. It's the thing that ads and the media target, people make fun of them for it, and they get constantly told they need to change. But no one mentions the positives: That personality and what makes them unique is far more important than anything regarding their appearance. These Girl Games could send a positive message to girls, say be who you want to be no matter your appearance, but instead they resort to body shaming and saying "you're fat, have more food, fatty" which is unfortunate.

Anyway, off that topic. Many young girls are playing games on Facebook these days, and there are quite a few games I think would be good to look at in this thread: Disney City Girl being one. If DeVac doesn't mind I could make a post covering this game, and others like it on facebook

It's not an item search game. (Well, it kinda is, but it's more than that), it has a daily action limit as well, and it is terrible. You're probably thinking of Disney's Hidden Worlds.

What happened was that Disney hired Playdom to develop facebook games for their brands. Playdom are already known for making games with action limits, rare resources, basically things that are going to make people spend money. So the majority of the games that Playdom made under the Disney IP are exactly that. There are a couple of good ones (The Marvel game and the Pirates of the Carribean game in particular) but the rest are really bad.

Let's Play Disney City Girl

I met so many great friends in college...
After graduation, they all moved to the big city
I love it here, but my dreams are too big for this small town!
I'm off to the glitz and glam of New York to meet up with my friends.
If I can make it here, I can make it anywhere!

With that we move into this lovely apartment and meet Jenna, our best friend.

I'm so glad you made it to the city! Life just hasn't been as FABULOUS without YOU!
I found you the CUTEST little apartment. It's not much, but it's yours! A new place for a new you in New York City!
First things first, though. I want to see your latest look!

My New Look

In this video you can see me making a character. The number up the top left is how many style points each item gives, and the highlighted icons tell you what those items give points in: Either clothing, social, business, sports or mystery. All the accessories do nothing except make you look FABULOUS! I chose business casual for both shirt, shoes and pants because business casual is the best casual.

That's the stunner I knew from college!
Life in New York can be complicated, but your friends are never far! If you're ever unsure what to do next, just check in with us!
I'll always be there to help you make the most of your life!

So Jenna gives us our first quest.
The nice thing about New York is you can get ANYTHING you want, and you definitely need furniture. Time to decorate!

So we have to pick a couch from the store and put it in our apartment. Sounds easy...
I'm going to pick the cheapest one, because I am frugal with money. This is New York, after all.

Here you can see the excellent place I put my new couch, and also my needs. From left to right there is social, happiness, food, cleaniness, and tiredness. I need some sleep.

Let us Relax on the couch. The icon shows what stat is increased. Some objects increase multiple stats, but not this one.

Now that you're rested, let's have some fun... by playing video games shopping, of course!
There is a GREAT boutique just around the courner. You live virtually next door to Tempo! Let's get you there, pronto!

So here we are in Tempo. Tempo sells stylish clothes that specialise in social and excercise. This store sucks because I want business casual!
Gold is Real Money Purchases, as is Gems, though you can earn gems in game, just not very quickly. So let's get the highest fashion clothes we can that actually cost coins.

I bought these yellow pants because they gave exercise and are stylish!

Hey, look who's late... but here!

Here we meet Olivia, who is magical, and can get us any job we want!
I lost track of time at work! You know how it is. Did Jenna show you around? Wait, let me guess: she took you shopping, and now you're broke.
That I can fix. With a few phone calls, I can get you started in your dream career!

We can change career at any time too, with no penalty. I wish I had a friend like this!

So what job will it be thread? You decide!

Let's Play Disney City Girl Part 2: Girl Games Harder

We chose UL Engineer as our job!

Hey Bestie, how goes the job hunt? Liza just told me she heard about a very cool contract position!

Here we meet Liza, who is probably an apprentice witch. She is who you work with if you go the Fashion Designer route.

That's right! I know an Engineer at Underwriters Laboratories who's looking for an assistant. I met her last summer at a Sustainable Fashion conference.
She was there giving a talk about the importance of chemical emissions testing for clothing. Do you want me to introduce you? Her name's Natasha Singh!

And with that, we meet Natasha, who was hiding in our apartment this whole time.

You can call me Tasha, actually. Liza's already told me about your background. Sounds like you could be fairly competent in this role.
Just don't expect the work to be easy!

INVITE NEIGHBOURS! Get more friends to help you make it big in the city!

Be quiet, Jenna!

And with that we finish a quest and...

Free gold and money, yeah! I wish I could level up in real life.

But anyway, now we have two quests. One from Tasha and one from Jenna. We're going to do the Tasha quest because Jenna just wants us to spend money. Life in New York is hard, Jenna!

Was Liza telling you about the talk I gave at that fashion conference?
Personally, I believe the lab coat is the very pinnacle of fashion. It's very chic, don't you agree? Especially when complemented with the right pair of goggles.
Why did I choose Tasha's Quest?
Not everyone shares our fine taste, unfortunately. Instead they buy clothes that too often contain chemicals toxic to the environment.
Your job is to help me test new products headed to the market. If they're going to harm the environment or the people using them, we want to know about it!

Tasha is "very fashionable" indeed, but not as fashionable as Business Casual.

Let's go to work!

This job takes ten seconds to do, but we only get paid 20 coins when the cost is a Metro Ticket and Energy. Still, 20 coins for 10 seconds work is good.

We finished work, and with that our quest. We have two quests again. Jenna, or Tasha. I'll let the thread pick this one. Also, feel free to choose new clothes. A reminder: The choices are Business, Social, or Sporty. There's also Mystery but a lot of those clothes cost real money.

Let's Play Disney City Girl - 3 - The Revenge of the Girl Games

Our friendship is really low. Let's go visit Jenna!

Travelling. This is what shows up when you go to work, before the stock images as well.

Achievements just for visiting a friends house!
Anyway, let's stop spamming images and talk to her.

Wow, rude, she doesn't even know who we are. I'll wave at her, I guess.

Suddenly we are Close Friends!

That was fast.
Let's see if being a close friend let's us do anything new...

Ah, yes, that's more like it. Anyway, after getting our hygiene up in her bathroom, let's see what Tasha wants.

Think your job is easy so far? Better get ready, it's about to heat up!
Tomorrow we begin testing an oven for a client.
Just how rigorous have the tests been to get that UL label? You're about to see!

Hmm... Let's go get that coffee maker.

There's all sorts of categories here but I think a coffee maker would be in Kitchen. Could be in Electrical, though.

Found it. It was in electrical. Now let's get a cabinet to put it down on.

What? This cabinet requires assembly? Screw that, my coffee maker can just go on the floor.

Perfect. Now let's check the UL label in the most safe and convenient place for a coffee maker to be. While we're at it, my might as well check the Microwave as well. And the laptop...

I'll tell you one thing. Playing Disney City Girl does not raise my happiness level up.

Finished that Quest. Here you can see the reward we'll get for completing all of Tasha's Quests, and we level up again. Let's start another with Tasha.

The tests that we need to perform to certify this oven are no small potatoes!
Trust me, we'll be using very BIG potatoes for the fire containment test.
But before we get to that part, we're going to thoroughly examine this specimen our client's sent us.

Mastering the first job was a breeze, but the next job requires us to be professional. Business casual here we come!

I only make 13 dollars with this amazing outfit? Let's go shopping and see if we can get more!

This new top only puts us up to 19, but I've got no money left, so it'll have to do.

While we wait the 9 minutes till work is unlocked again, I'm going to see what Jenna wants.

We should catch up, it's been a long time since college! Come over to my place and tell me EVERYTHING!

Okay, back to Jennas Place. We've done most the tasks already. The only task left is to Watch TV with her. Let's do that!

Apparently I didn't bother taking a screenshot of them watching TV together. Oh well. The movie that plays is the Opening Cutscene to this game, by the way.

Life is SO much more fun with friends! Invite yours to join you in the Big Apple!

We get Jenna's key as a reward for finishing that quest. We must be very close friends.

Hmm... it's still 4 minutes to work, we've got a quest from Jenna and Olivia. I'll see what Olivia wants.

In no time you'll be climbing the corporate ladder! I think it's about time you visited the professional clothing store: Hart & Gray!

She wants us to buy clothes from Hart & Gray, which I've done twice already. Well, back to the store, I suppose.

I just ended up buying tights. They were 395 silver and I didn't have money for anything else.

In the meantime I finished yet another day at work, so 1 more before I have mastered that job and can finish Tasha's Quest. Hopefully that is soon.

I got my needs up so I wasn't dying, then I got bored waiting and decided to get my needs all the way to the top stat: Dazzling. Below Dazzling is Well Dressed and I don't know what's below that because I haven't got that low. But after all that I had a look at Jenna's Quest.

You're definitely going to want to keep your needs balanced. Why? So you can become DAZZLING, of course!

I swear I didn't plan any of this in advance.

I just have to look at my dazzle in the mirror to finish. Let's do that!

With 2 minutes left I just decide to wait it out rather than start another quest. This page is already getting long enough.

Finally Finished, and Mastered. With the end of the Girl Games thread coming soon, this will probably be the last update of City Girl. I hope everyone enjoyed. :)
